Young Money's Drake recently discussed singer Frank Ocean's absence from his star-studded OVO Fest earlier in the week and promised fans there are no hard feelings.
The Toronto native said Ocean gave him a head’s up and apologized for not being able to come through.
“We tried to make it a two-day festival to make it more of an experience, I know Frank’s been working hard touring everywhere so it’s understandable. I’ve had my times where I was like, ‘I can’t do these shows.’ It’s just too much, you know. He hit me and was like, ‘Yo, I’m sorry man.’ It’s all good, it’s all love, man. It would have been incredible to have him but we still had James Blake and I think it made this night even more special, just having everybody; James Blake, Wale, myself and what not and then having everybody else who came out.” (Revolt TV)
An injury to Ocean’s throat forced Drake to nix the festival’s opening night.
The opening night of next week’s OVO Fest in Toronto has been cancelled due to the vocal problems of its headliner, Frank Ocean, Live Nation announced on Tuesday. Ocean, who suffered a tear on his vocal cord last week, resulting in the cancellation of an Australian tour, was to perform on Aug. 4 at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Canada’s largest city. James Blake, who was to perform on the same bill as Ocean, will instead be added to the sold-out Aug. 5 show alongside Drake and Wale. Tickets for the opening night will be refunded. (Billboard)
Toward the latter part of Drizzy’s star-studded event, unexpected appearances by Diddy, Ma$e and more heated up the OVO Fest spectacle.
J. Cole and Miguel (the latter co-headlining a fall tour with Drake) swooned female fans with radio hits “Power Trip” and “Adorn” before the rapper-singer went into an acoustic cover of “I Get Lonely Too.” The moment lead into an appearance from TLC, who did a medley of “Fanmail,” “Waterfalls” (with Lil’ Mama), and “Scrubs.” After taking fans back to his early hits such as “Successful,” “Best I Ever Had,” “Forever,” and “Over,” it was time for a rare reunion as Diddy and Ma$e joined together on stage for the first time in years. The duo showed their chemistry of the 90s as they ran through No. 1 hits “Victory,” “Feel So Good,” “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems,” and “All About the Benjamins.” (Miss Info TV)
Drizzy recruited a slew of hip-hop heavyweights like Nicki Minaj, French Montana, Meek Mill and more for last year’s OVO Fest.
Drake headlined his third annual OVO Festival in his hometown of Toronto on Sunday night (August 5) with guests like Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, Snoop Dogg as his reggae alter-ego Snoop Lion, French Montana, Meek Mill and singer The Weeknd all sharing the stage with him. And as promised, Drake unleashed his featured guest appearance on Aaliyah’s posthumous single, “Enough Said,” debuting it as part of his huge concert last night. It has previously been reported that Drizzy would be executive-producing the late and loved singer’s posthumous album and “Enough Said” seems to be the first listen off the project. (XXL Mag)
