Based on an excerpt from Game’s feature, the California-bred emcee said he worked closely with the Doc.

“Dr. Dre. came in and said, ‘This is The R.E.D. Album? Cool. But you need this, this, and this and that,’?” Game says of the shift in his focus. “I was like, ‘Well, where am I gonna get this, this, this and that?’ He was like, ‘We here, ain’t we?’ … We started working on The R.E.D. Album, and some of the songs we did for The R.E.D. Album he snatched for Detox. Then we worked on some more, and he gave me more for R.E.D. At that time, I was probably the happiest I was in my career. Back working with Dre. Working really closely. Our relationship has always been real easygoing, man. Especially when it comes to the music.” (XXL Mag)

Last month, New York rap veteran Nas said he helped contribute to Dre’s long-awaited solo LP.

“Dre is the king of the gangster music,” Nas told “106 & Park” host Rocsi. “You know what I mean? He’s like — I worked with him back in the days for The Firm album and I just did something for his new album, Detox, so I’ll wait for it. [Do I have the inside info?] No, don’t put that on me. [laughs] I don’t have the inside…We got a nice record, we got a nice record. That’s it.” (“106 & Park”)

In May, West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg gave his input on the Doc’s delayed album.

“He’s got a strong work ethic and I’m gonna say this,” Snoop Dogg told Tim Westwood. “I don’t know if it’s gonna ruffle any feathers, I just think the wrong people are in the environment. When he made records that were hit records in the past, D.O.C., Snoop Dogg, RBX, Kurupt, it’s pieces that’s not there that need to be there. And I’ll say D.O.C. and Snoop Dogg is the backbone. When you take those two equations and take them out of the equation, it’s not gonna work. You need to put them two back into the equation and let us mastermind head the project like we did Chronic and 2001. That’s what’s missing.” (“Tim Westwood TV”)

A week prior, producer Swizz Beatz shared his insight on Dre’s upcoming project.

“It’s just been a great experience for me, whether they go on the album, whether they don’t go on the album,” Swizz said in an interview. “‘V.I.P. Chillin’,’ I took that one for myself, but I would gladly give it back to him anytime he wants it back…Dre has amazing songs and I think everything is worth the wait. He’s a genius, he’s a legend and it’s just no getting around that…Everybody just gotta chill out and let that man do his thing. He’s a master at what he does, hands down.” (MTV)

A Detox release date has not yet been announced.
