Today, West Coast producer Dr. Dre proved his long-awaited Detox album release may be a reality by dropping the first music video from the LP, “Kush.”
The Snoop Dogg and Akon collaboration’s visual landed on the Internet Friday (December 10) evening.
Interscope released the accompanying video to Dr. Dre’s latest single, “Kush,” today (Dec. 10) and the clip finds the Doc, alongside featured guests Akon and Snoop Dogg, getting the party started with the flick of a lighter. In the video, Dre, Snoop and Akon are at a nightclub with party-goers that are frozen in place. That is until Dr. Dre takes his lighter to one of the indoor sprinklers and the water wakes the entire crowd up. The best part of the clip? When Dre and Snoop are walking side-by-side down a corridor. Ah, the good ol’ days. (Billboard)
Snoop Dogg recently discussed being selected to appear on Dre’s first Detox record.
Snoop didn’t hesitate when his mentor asked him to be part of the song. “Dr. Dre, that’s my big homeboy, that’s my big brother,” he said. “He gave me my start, so whenever he calls me to come through and do what I need to, I’m there for him. Akon’s part of the family too so this is what we do, we just make great music.” (Rap-Up)
Despite the anticipation, former Aftermath Records artist Eve recently questioned whether Dre’s album would ever really drop.
“[laughs] I don’t mean to laugh but it’s only funny because obviously I’ve been taking a long time talking about my record, Dr. Dre has taken the longest time, are we still talking about Detox,” Eve said in an interview. “Seriously. I feel Detox is not real. I do. Honestly, I would be honored [to be featured], I hope he does call me ‘if’ the album happens. God forbid he sees this, [nevertheless] I believe in you Dre, but where’s the album? Seriously. I don’t know. I hope he calls.” (I’m Not A Rappa TV)
Based on recent published reports, Detox is currently set to hit stores February 2011.
Not that we believe him or anything, but Dr. Dre announced his long-awaited album Detox is set for a February 2011 release. But, he’s probably lying, and we don’t know why keep going back to him after he makes promises like this and just keeps us waiting. We should probably just go back home and live with our mother while we think things over and try to decide if he’s worth believing this time. Detox will feature guest appearances from Dre’s friends Eminem, the Game, La Roux, and Jay-Z along with Snoop Dogg and Akon, who appeared on the single “Kush,” which will receive an official release on Sunday when it becomes available for download.
