According to hit maker Dawaun Parker, the Doc killed Detox in 2012.

Longtime Aftermath producer Dawaun Parker sat down with Jeff Weiss and MC Nocando for their “Shots Fired” podcast, where he gave everyone the latest update on the seemingly mythological project — which co-producer at the time Scott Storch described as “the most advanced rap album ever” back in 2004. “He scrapped Detox a couple of years ago and came up with another title,” Parker told “Shots Fired.” “I won’t say what the title is ’cause I haven’t seen that online or anything yet.” (MTV)

Parker dished out the details in this video…

Earlier this year, rap star Rick Ross revealed his Sizzla and Mavado-assisted “Mafia Music III” initially had Detox written all over it.

“Mafia Music III track was originally for Detox which @drdre gave me for #Mastermind in a session. #Gem,” Ricky Rozay wrote March 20, revealing it was originally for Dr. Dre’s solo album. (Rick Ross’ Twitter)

Last year, Atlanta rapper T.I. said the reason we had yet to see an OutKast reunion or even Dre’s long-awaited Detox LP was due to the artists’ own fears.

“From me speaking to Dre man I heard him being open to it, I really did. I think his concern is do the kids right now who are young and buying music care enough about an Outkast album for it to make a difference. Which is the same concern that I hear from other people that we all love and respect in this industry like Dr. Dre. I was working with Doc on “Detox” and that was his same concern. Of course we’re looking at them like we have such huge admiration for them for what they’ve done in the past, but they are looking at themselves kind of like ‘What do I mean to the young kid of today that is going out there to buy music?’ That’s what the struggle is.” (The Urban Daily)

In 2012, Aftermath’s Kendrick Lamar blamed his good kid, m.A.A.d. city LP for forcing Dre to keep Detox off shelves.

Detox got pushed to the back just because my album, Dre really found interest in my music [and] wanted me to go forward and push that immediately,” Lamar said in an interview. “That’s a great thing. I’ve heard the records on Detox, they’re insane, and the opportunity to be on that is a privilege and an honor.” (Puna NL)

  1. This is a complete waste of an article. We’ve been known this for years now.

  2. No really he scrapped it??? Gtfoh he ain’t dropping it Cuz he had more hype for this album than any other album in music history and if ONE SONG on that album wasn’t FIRE then it would be a failure.

    • Yep, he knew he already had two classic albums, the hype and the delays this album had if it wasnt the greatest rap album of all time it would be look at as a failure. It would have to be better than his first two and if not the best rap album ever it would have to be atleast top 3 and the chances it would be that good are slim. Had he just dropped the dam thing 10 years ago even if the album wasnt a classic it would have been ok but waiting all these years, promising fans the album was coming put more pressure on him and he knows he cant deliver.

      • You’re right. Its to the point now where he probably won’t release a CD. He can name it whatever he wants to too. Lol

  3. I told you fools years ago all detox was gone be was a pictorial album. Just pictures of dre in the studio with different artist, equals laughed and didn’t believe and years later, of course I was right yell
