Hip-hop mogul Dr. Dre has explained the motivation behind launching a new Beats 1 radio show called “The Pharmacy” on newly launched streaming service Apple Music this weekend.

According to the Doc, longtime business partner and former Interscope Records head Jimmy Iovine pitched him the opportunity.

Explaining his decision to host the show, Dre said on air: “Jimmy Iovine [Beats co-founder] approached me with this idea about doing a radio station and broadcasting around the entire globe, man. And I was like, ‘What?’ Then I started thinking. I’ve made music. I’m making movies now. So a radio station? Why not.” (NME)

  1. Why is Dre coming to radio?! Maybe cuz Detox flopped so hard it never dropped and he feels he needs to stay relevant lol he was nice back in the day, but now his old age has caught up and everyday that goes by is a day towards people wanting to hear from him less and less and maybe he sees that with his old ass!!

    • Everyone gets old… Or dies. Putting things in perspective in his what you called old age he has signed the best and most lucrative deal in his life. The man just became a billionaire. He is older but doing better than ever. Irrelevant people don’t get the opportunities he has now.. It was wisdom that kept him from dropping detox. If it failed it may have fucked up other things that are much more lucrative than an album. He has already proved everything he needs to prove musically… I didn’t mean to say so much but fuck it.
