Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre is once again linking back up with rap veteran Snoop Dogg for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicking off in April.
Dre and Snoop headline the rock-meets-rap concert series along with The Black Keys and Radiohead.
The Black Keys, Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will headline two weekends of concerts at The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Organizers of the Indio, Calif., music festival on Monday announced a dizzying list of top musicians who are slated to perform over two long weekends, April 13-15 and April 20-22. The six-day concert schedule marks the first time Coachella is to extend over two consecutive weekends. (New York Daily News)
Last year’s showcase featured the one and only Grammy-winning rap star Kanye West.
Last year’s festival, which lasted just one weekend, featured Kanye West, Arcade Fire and the Strokes, helping to coax 75,000 people to buy three-day passes. Goldenvoice, the festival’s promoter, reported $23 million in ticket sales. In May, organizers said the festival would expand to a second weekend. (New York Times)
This news comes just weeks after Dre said he planned to take a break from the music scene.
“These are the next two artists I’m working on, Slim the Mobster and Kendrick Lamar. I think that’s when I’m gonna just wrap it up for a minute because I’ve been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I’ve ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks,” Dr. Dre said in an interview. “So yeah I feel like I’m gonna take a little bit of a break. I’m never gonna stop music, it’s like air to me. So I’mma take a little bit of a break. Enjoy some time with the family til I get that itch to get back in.” (FADER TV)
Despite his promise, the Doc later said he would still continue working on his long-delayed Detox solo album.
“Well, right now I’m just taking a small break to come out and do some promotion with Beats but actually I’m getting back on it when I get home. It has to feel good,” Dre said in an interview when asked about taking a break from music. (Time Out)
