DMX's ex-wife Tashera Simmons claims the recently convicted rap star was conspired against by Phoenix, AZ authorities when busted for probation violation charge last month.

According to Simmons, she believes X should not be held responsible for his violation.

“He only had three weeks left [of probation], and they set him up,” Mrs. Simmons said. “Because he was in a rehab that they put him in because he was driving dirty, and they gave him permission to go do a show. How do you give someone that’s supposed to be in a rehab permission to do a show? It was a set-up, and then X, I can’t even believe that he even took a drink knowing the situation.” (Street Disciplez Radio)

X was sentenced to a year behind bars in an Arizona courtroom last week.

DMX, who was arrested for a probation violation in Arizona last month, was sentenced to a year in prison on the charge this morning — his sixth stint behind bars in the state. The MC said late last month that a sip of alcohol during one of his concerts led to his arrest on multiple charges, including probation violation, failure to submit to drug testing and several drug charges. Around late November, X spoke on his arrest and denied using any illegal drugs.

DMX, born Earl Simmons, was temporarily released from a substance abuse program to perform at a concert in Scottsdale, Ariz. The New York native consumed alcohol during the event, an act that landed him in handcuffs. “I shouldn’t have done it,” DMX says. “I wasn’t done with the program. They let me out to do the show. I should have protected myself better.” Despite his abundant run-ins with the law, DMX remains optimistic about what’s to come. “It’s rare that I get fair treatment…” he reveals. “It’s love or hate. I’m gonna get through this. Thank you for the support and love, I won’t let you down.” (The Boom Box)

Last August, X discussed his separation from Tashera and trying to lead a more positive life.

“I’m good, life is good, God is great man,” X said in an interview over the weekend with rap personality Super Snake. “And it’s gonna get better. With this last one, I had been sitting for 90 days, since like January or February and this whole time, by the grace of God, I was given the opportunity to pick the time. I thought ‘Let me knock it out’ because I got a lot of work to do in L.A. and I don’t want to get snagged, get it over with. It was only 90 days anyway. BFW, baby. Built For War…[Me and my son’s] relationship is not the best right now but it’s gonna get better. All he’s known his whole life is me being there and now me and his mother are separated, we’re not together anymore and it’s been like five, six years but that’s my first born. That’s my baby.” (101.5 Jamz)
