Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul has addressed getting arrested over the weekend in New York City on a charge of carrying an illegal weapon.
According to DJ Paul, he saw no harm in possessing a taser and dismissed the criminal charge.
Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul tells TMZ … he shouldn’t be considered a criminal for carrying a taser around NYC … claiming he simply didn’t know it was illegal. As we previously reported, the rapper was arrested late last night when cops approached him about carrying an open can of beer in public (a Corona) … when they learned he was packin’ a taser. “I honestly didn’t know it was illegal,” Paul tells us … adding, “I thought it was at the same level as pepper spray.” (TMZ)
Rather than face the consequence, Paul plans to fight the case.
Paul continues, “My bodyguard wasn’t around last night and I was by myself in NYC and anything can happen in the late hours down there.” Paul says he plans to fight the charges — telling us, “I have a clean record and don’t want to dirty it up for something minor like this … I wasn’t carrying it to go out and harm someone.” (TMZ)
Along with the taser charge, Paul also got busted on drinking in public.
It really is hard out there for a pimp. Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul was busted carrying a Taser and drinking in public Sunday. A cop spotted the rapper, whose actual name is Paul Beauregard, carrying an open Corona near the corner of W. 39th St. and Ninth Ave. at 8 p.m., according to a criminal complaint. Asked why he had the illegal stun gun, the Academy Award winner explained, “I use it for personal protection,” the complaint said. Beauregard was charged with weapons possession and public drinking. Following the arrest, the producer hopped on his Twitter page to update fans.
