West Coast producer DJ Mustard has come forward to help provide support to the Michigan water crisis efforts by making a hefty donation this week.

Mustard credited Michigan native Big Sean for providing him an outlet to donate $10,000 with his #HEALFLINTKIDS viral fundraiser.

Sean’s donation started a snowball effect and on Tuesday (January 26) it was announced DJ Mustard matched the Detroit native’s $10,000 with 10K of his own. “As a father of two kids, the tragedy in Flint, Michigan hit home for me,” DJ Mustard said. “Shout out to Big Sean for starting this viral campaign. I hope my donation can encourage others to step up for an important cause.” (VIBE)

Fellow West Coast musician Game felt inspired and donated $500,000 of his own money to the water crisis causes.

Celebrities Diddy, Mark Wahlberg, Eminem and Wiz Khalifa have all united to donate one million bottles of water.

“AQUAhydrate investors Mark Wahlberg and REVOLT chairman, Sean “Diddy” Combs, are teaming with Eminem and Wiz Khalifa to donate one million bottles of AQUAhydrate to the people of Flint. “The initial donation of five thousand cases is making it’s way across the country and is expected to arrive early next week.” The statement added that the company “is working closely with Michigan state and emergency management in a long-term commitment until the water issue is resolved”. Flint mayor Karen Weaver reacted to rap star Meek Mill donating water to her city last week.

“Yes, I sure would,” when asked if she would like to see other artists outside of Meek Mill donating to the water crisis efforts. “It’s wonderful to have that kind of support and getting him involved. I appreciate that. I would like [Michigan native celebrities] as well. You know it would be well appreciated – thank-you so much [Meek Mill]. I sure would like the opportunity to thank him and talk to him. Thank-you so much. I appreciate it, the residents of the city of Flint love you for that. [Am I waiting for Eminem next?] That’s right. Eminem, Kid Rock, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker. [laughs]” (TMZ)

  1. Notwithstanding the importance of the cause but this donation thing for Flint is getting kinda weird. It’s like everyone is trying to ‘one up each other smh.

    • I’m not mad at whoever for using the artist’s vanity to get something productive done. At least its for a good cause that also tax deductible. Normally these guys would be competing over who got the most expensive chain or car. Its far from the ideal of doing what’s rights because you care, but hey at least it helps.

    • that’s too convoluted for me. The fact that you said “it’s far from the ideal of doing what’s right” is all I need to hear..

    • The ideal was “doing whats right because you care” not just “doing whats right”. The action is still the same regardless, people are getting the water they need. I hate that the only reason the guys may be donating is to show off, but at least its getting done.

    • in what world do we live in where that would be acceptable. It’s like they equate giving with competition. You give because it’s the right thing to do not to usurp someone else. The dynamic is skewed because it’s disingeneous.

    • I agree with you wholeheartedly, but in situations like these pragmatism outweighs idealism. Its only acceptable because the other option is them not giving at all. We can’t force someone’s sympathies to align to the cause we would like them to stand for, but we can make the cause align to something that may be sympathetic toward.
