[Music newcomer Just Ivy is keeping 2014 sizzling following recent collaborations with DJ Khaled, Meek Mill and Akon and tells SOHH readers what's on deck.]
My whole career started with everything supposed to be focused on me and my voice. But then I met DJ Khaled and a lot of great collaborations have come from that. When you have corporations, they look to see things like “Bad Girl Take Over” having Meek Mill on it and seeing how much DJ Khaled produced for me, but there’s also songs that are just my voice.
Sometimes when you have songs that do need features, it’s great to be able to have people to go on there. We actually want to focus on both, actually. We want to keep doing collaborations but also do songs that show off my voice. We concentrate more on doing me and my voice and the music but I love working with other artists too.
It’s a dream to work with someone like DJ Khaled and Akon, and I just want to see how it grows. There’s so many great artists that I love and respect and admire their work. I think it goes to another level every time you work with another artist. I feel like you have to step it up and once you step it up, you can say, “Now I can work with this person.” There’s a lot of artists I would love to work with but there’s no one particular one I can name for right now.
We’re aiming to release another record and it has French Montana on it. We’re working on rehearsals, the dance and then there’s a few options. I would love to shoot the next music video with French but there’s also another video that is just of myself and it’s a record produced by DJ Khaled.
We’ll see how that goes. I want to try putting out a record that doesn’t have DJ Khaled attached to it and see how it goes. But for right now, we’re looking to see how “Light Me Up” goes and go from there.
You can definitely look forward to another music video, dance rehearsals and another single.
