While Rick Ross’s album Deeper Than Rap topped Nielsen Soundscan this week, DJ Khaled has informed fans that the Miami rapper is preparing another album.
Working the album behind the scenes as Def Jam South president, Khaled assured fans early that Ross’ effort debuting number one.
“I’d like to congratulate Rick Ross in advance for the number one album in the country,” Khaled said in an interview. “I don’t need to know what he sold, I don’t need to look at the charts, I know. It’s the number one album in the country and it’s a classic before even released. You told me, not me. The streets did. A&R’ed by myself, co-executive produced by myself. Def Jam Records, Maybach Music. Rick Ross, congratulations, you did it. Your album is a classic and by the way, we’re back in the studio already for his next album. Shhhhh. I shouldn’t have told ya.” (MTV)
Khaled remained behind the scenes despite being taunted by 50 Cent in songs like “Try Me” and “Poem to DJ Khaled.”
“Yo, I got this lil’ poem I wrote for DJ Khaled,” 50 narrated in a video. “Your car tires got stabbed out, now you know, I know where you be. I just wanna tell you what a psychic told me. I know where your mama house at. Now look, you can see. But I just wanna tell you what a psychic told me. I know where your mama work at, now look at her, asleep. I just wanna tell you what a pyschic told me. I’m not the kinda n*gga you should f*ck with, B. I’m special. I have less compassion than the average human.” (This Is 50)
The Miami deejay joined forces with Def Jam earlier this year overseeing various artists, including Ross and Young Jeezy.
“This is what I’ve always wanted to do, is be an executive and take it to another level,” Khaled said in an interview. “L.A. [Reid] just hit me one day. He was like, ‘We should bring Khaled onboard. He makes hits, he has relationships.’ I got a team of producers and we go in hard. My job is to bring hits to the table and work with new artists and work with established artists. I’m bringing new energy to the game and to the building.” (Examiner)
Terror Squad leader Fat Joe recently discussed the impact Khaled can bring to the renowned record label.
“No one has ever seen an executive like DJ Khaled,” Joe said in an interview. “Everybody in the music business who’s an executive has been polished for the job. Khaled comes with the energy that hasn’t been seen in this game, ever, from the day that f*cking Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons opened Def Jam! He’s going to put out nothing but hits. And I expect him to be one of the biggest executives in a couple of years, the hip-hop game has ever seen. I guarantee he’s going to be an executive of a lifetime. Remember I told you.” (Complex)
Further information on Ross’ upcoming studio release has not yet been released.
