In Khaled’s opinion, too many hip-hop fans and critics are misinterpreting the song’s meaning.

“I feel like Pac, I feel like Biggie. We ain’t say I am ‘Pac or I am Biggie. That’s where you have to use your intelligence,” Khaled explained in an interview. “Wheoever’s thinking that it’s supposed to be a negative vibe, I’m confused ’cause I don’t understand it. It’s nothin’ but love. Of course you have people talking this and that, but I think they misunderstand the energy. The energy is ‘I feel like Pac, I feel like Biggie.’ They the greatest ever. Nobody’s better than them.” (The Truth W/ Elliott Wilson)

Earlier this month, Khaled revealed fellow producer Swizz Beatz was largely responsible for helping piece together the hard-hitting track.

“When I made ‘I Feel Like Pac/ I Feel Like Biggie’ me and Swizz was in the studio and I played Swizz the beat and I gave him a vision of who I wanted to be on the record. Swizz came up with this hook: ‘I feel like ‘Pac,’ ” Khaled told MTV News when we took a trip to his North Miami recording studio. “That chemistry with me and Swizz was amazing when we were cooking that, but at the same time I couldn’t have put just any rapper on that record so I put Ross, I put Meek and I put T.I.,” he said of how he decided to put on the verses. Khaled also stood behind adding Maybach Music Group head Rick Ross to the thumping record.

“Ross is one of the biggest rappers in the game and one of the hardest gangsta rappers in the game and that’s what Biggie and ‘Pac was,” said Khaled. “And then you got T.I., another brother from the south who’s one of the hardest rappers in the game and in and out of jail, going through so much sh–. If you really look at T.I.’s story, he done been through a lot of sh–, as well as Ross. (MTV)

Former Bad Boy Records star Ma$e appeared to take aim at the track’s release with an Instagram comment earlier this month.

“N*ggas sold u out BIG. I hate the way your legacy has been watered down. I don’t have to be from Bk. Let him rest. #respect,” Ma$e wrote on an Instagram post of the late music icon. (Ma$e’s Instagram)
