According to reports, a couple of teenage girls have wound up in handcuffs after allegedly getting two youngsters to fight on camera.

In a disturbing two-minute video, widely viewed on the Internet this week after being posted to YouTube and other Web sites, the girls, both 7, square off to a chorus of jeers and shouts. The fracas ends when one girl begins to sob, protesting hysterically, “I don’t want to hit her. I’m not playing. I like this little girl.” Police detectives on Friday arrested two teenage girls, 14 and 15, saying they incited the fight, about 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 in Poe Park in the Bronx. Both were charged with endangering the welfare of a child, the police said. “Those two teenagers were egging them on,” said Paul J. Browne, the Police Department’s chief spokesman. “It’s callous and disturbing and exploitive of two little girls.” (New York Times)

In the clip, one of the victims clearly states she does not want to inflict any harm.

An investigation began after the Web site Gothamist posted a two and a half minute YouTube video on Tuesday with the headline “Little Girls Forced to Fight in N.Y.C. Park.” A mother of one of the 7-year-olds saw the video and contacted the police. In the video, a chorus of voices exhorted the two 7-year-olds with cries of “slap her,” and “harder.” After one 7-year-old attacked, the other responded to the jeers from the onlookers by sobbing and shouting: “I don’t want to hit her. I’m not playing. I like this little girl.” (City Room)

Reports claim the youngsters hoped to gain some fame on video-sharing websites like World Star Hip Hop.

The woman who contacted the police told investigators that she thought the teenagers had intentionally fomented the brawl in hopes of creating a video that would receive widespread attention on the Internet, specifically on WorldStar Hip-Hop, a Web site that showcases clips of violent altercations. Earlier this month, the mayor of Newark, Cory A. Booker, excoriated WorldStar and other Web sites for featuring a video, taken last August, of three men stripping a fourth man and whipping him with a belt. The men were charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy, possession of a weapon and robbery. (New York Times)

Since the story blew up, a third teenager has been arrested while a possible fourth suspect is being investigated.

Another teen was busted for forcing a fight between two grade-school girls in the Bronx that was captured on YouTube video, authorities said. The 14-year-old was charged as a juvenile with endangering the welfare of a child, cops said. Sources said she may be the sister of the 6-year-old victim, but it was not immediately clear and the two had separate names. One other older girl is still being sought in the case, authorities said. Two other girls, 14 and 15, were previously charged with child endangerment, police said. (New York Post)
