Diddy’s Not Always A Bad Boy, Saves Harlem Kids

Entertainment mogul Diddy has placed his positive side on display this week by making a substantial donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem, saving the organization from the possibility of cutting back programs & closing its doors.

According to midday reports, Diddy saved the youth-based organization from having to worry about immediate financial needs.

The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem announced that Diddy made a “remarkable contribution” to the youth-empowering organization located in his hometown. Diddy’s donation will significantly impact the organization’s operations budget, which has been under tremendous pressure due to enormous shifts in federal, state and private funding. (Global Grind)

Board member Willie C. Bentley released a statement confirming the impresario’s donation.

“Mr. Combs’ contribution comes at a time when we were faced with the possibility of eliminating existing programs and/or club sites. 100% of Mr. Combs’ contribution will go directly to the young people, and provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs allowing us to move forward as a club, uninterrupted.” (Statement)

The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem has been operating as a safe haven for kids for over three decades.

Since 1980, the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people who need us the most regardless of economic, social and family circumstances. The Boys & Girls Club of Harlem provides a tangible measure of hope. The Club offers young people what they need and want most: adults who respect and listen to them; a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves; and interesting, constructive activities that channel youthful energy into challenging pursuits. Earlier this year, Diddy was projected to become hip-hop’s first billionaire.

This week we’ve released a new list, one that measures rappers not by annual earnings, but by net worth. We’ve dubbed this select group “The Forbes Five.” Sure enough, our original holy trinity of moneymaking is present; their fortunes total just over $1 billion. And there’s plenty of room to grow, especially for Diddy, who leads the pack with $475 million. Diddy’s ten-figure dreams hinge on a lucrative partnership with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka. Diddy teamed up with alcohol conglomerate back in 2007 with the aim of perking up sales for the fledgling spirit. Diageo agreed to split any profits with him; if the company ever sold Ciroc, he’d be entitled to a share of the proceeds. The rationale: Why not? The brand wasn’t selling, and Diddy was always known for having a flair for marketing. (Forbes)
