Prior to heading to jail, rapper T.I. talked about his Christina Aguilera No Mercy album feature, “Castle Walls,” and how Diddy sacrificed the record for him.
According to T.I., Diddy said he felt the record was more suited for the “King of the South.”.
“A funny thing about this record: It belonged to my big homey Puff first,” Tip explained in an exclusive interview on “RapFix Live.” “Puff, he acknowledged it, ‘Yeah, this is my record, but you know what, I think this is a better fit for you. I think you should rock out on this one. I think this speaks volumes to where you are, what you going through, what you living and how you feel.'” (RapFix)
According to one-day estimates from last week, T.I.’s new album is slated to sell over 100,000 copies in its first-week sales.
T.I.’s new album, No Mercy, finds the imprisoned rapper scoring the top debut this week, with the Grand Hustle/Atlantic title looking at first-week sales in the 135-145k range. Daft Punk‘s Tron: Legacy soundtrack for Walt Disney could do a surprisingly robust total of 55-60k, while Gap Band member Charlie’s Wilson‘s Jive/JLG effort, Just Charlie, looks like it’s headed for a total of 50-55k. Following the album’s release last week, T.I. issued a public statement speaking on the project.
“So here it is…NO MERCY, the most honest and intimate installment of my life story as promised. Hope y’all enjoy it and it lives up to the very high standards I’ve set for myself or anyone who’s to be considered one of the best. I must admit it takes a lot to go through as much as I have and still keep the love in your heart and in your art. But at the end of the day, if that’s what it takes to produce the music that keeps the world of hip-hop evolving on it’s axis….Then even the lowest of the lows of my life was all worth it. Thanks again for your prayers, your time and attention. And remember….It doesn’t matter how long it’ll be before the next time you see me. What matters is that I’ll be a better man before that time comes. The longer I sit, the smarter I get.” (Trap Muzik)
