Hours after Diddy formally announced his decision to undergo the rap alias "Swag" for an entire week, West Coast rapper Lil B has co-signed the music mogul's new name.
Not only impressed by the name change, Based God hopes to be the first to snag Swag for a collaboration.
Diddy is ready for another name change. Yesterday (May 19) the hip-hop mogul took to YouTube to announce his new moniker, “Swag.” XXLMag.com reached out to Lil B, the man arguably responsible for the term’s newfound popularity to find out his reaction to the news. “It’s all good,” the Based God said. “Diddy is my family and we finna get in the studio! I’mma have the first feature from Swag.” (XXL Mag)
Late Thursday, Diddy released a video announcing his new alias.
“Check it out, so I decided I’m going to change my name for a week in honor of my comeback,” Diddy revealed in a video. “Y’all know I’ve been known as Puff, Puffy, Puff Daddy, Diddy, P. Diddy, King Combs, earlier it was Sean Combs, and for a week, this week only, call me by my new name, ‘Swag.’ Check it out. My new name is Swag.” (P Twitty TV)
After recently being named the wealthiest hip-hop entertainer by Forbes, Diddy downplayed his achievement.
“To be honest, on that list, I was on the cover of Forbes back in ’98,” Diddy explained in an interview. “I been on that list. I don’t really get caught up into the list. I think people think that I have that money actually sitting at home in the basement…It’s really like if I sold all my companies, and I take pride in [building] something as a black man that’s worth that much…To everyone calling me for a loan today, I do not have that money today! … It helps inspire people and it shows the power of hip-hop.” (MTV)
Lil B is currently putting together a new album called I’m Gay.
“I’m gonna do the most controversial thing in hip-hop,” B said while performing at Coachella in Indio, California. “Y’all heard it hear first. And I’m gonna just show y’all that words don’t mean sh*t. I’m gonna make an album called ‘I’m Gay.’ Now I’m gonna tell y’all why I’m the first person to do it in hip-hop and why y’all are the first people to know my reason…First of all, gay means happy. I like women, I love women, you feel me? But it just shows me, no matter what you do, live life, you only got one life to live, be happy. F*ck the hating.” (YouTube)
