Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy has shown off his funny side this week by making fans and fellow musicians alike believe he is going to star in British series “Downton Abbey.”
Puffy broke the “news” to his 8.7 million Twitter followers Wednesday (May 15).
“I’m going to be making a big announcement in the next hour-im excited for yall to hear!,” he tweeted May 15th.
“I have to admit that Downton Abbey is one of my favorite shows- and thats why Im so excited today @DowntonAbbey”
“MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i’ll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!” (Diddy’s Twitter)
The buzz caught attention from a slew of high-profile artists like Maybach Music Group head Rick Ross.
“Congrats to @iamdiddy on joining the cast of @DowntonAbbey!,” Ross tweeted May 15th. (Rick Ross’ Twitter)
The buzz also sparked the interest of “Downton Abbey” producers, who denied the claim’s validity.
When asked if there was any truth to the tweets, a press representative for Masterpiece said “None at all. Thanks for checking.” Whether the tweets are the result of a hacker or just a joke remained unclear, but it appears the show’s fans on both sides of the Atlantic won’t be seeing Diddy upstairs or downstairs on the costume drama. Hours later, Diddy revealed it was all part of a parody for joke-based online website FunnyOrDie.com.
Diddy will not be starring in Downton Abbey, in spite of apparently claiming he would be taking a recurring role in the hit costume drama. The US rapper turned out to have been promoting a skit on Will Ferrell‘s Funny Or Die website. The prospect of Lord and Lady Grantham being overshadowed by glittering bling, and Cristal served to a disapproving dowager countess was raised on 15 May when Diddy announced via his Twitter feed he would be joining the cast of Julian Fellowes’s ITV drama.
