Diddy said he prematurely announced release dates and later realized the project needed more work.

“We pushed our album back a bunch of times because we felt, to be honest, we weren’t ready. I think a lot of times artists make that mistake. They get locked into a date and they’re like, ‘Well, I told everybody my date was this.’ … And it’s not fair to change your date four times like we did…We’re sorry. But at the same time, we had to get to know each other better. We had more work to do to jell. We had to do different things on the album to make it more balanced and really finish the story the right way, not the selfish way. We feel comfortable now that we’re telling the story in the way it’s supposed to be told.” (MTV)

Last September, Diddy’s “Hello, Good Morning” hitmaker Rico Love hit up SOHH and explained the rap mogul’s album delay.

“I know exactly why Diddy’s Last Train to Paris is being delayed. Diddy is a perfectionist. I feel like he challenges himself more than any other person, besides Dr. Dre, in this business. Diddy and Dre challenge themselves so much; they feel like they can always do better. I was just with him recently and I feel like he’s really, really close [to completion]. He just has this one record he wants to have perfected and add some parts to it. He’s just so much of a perfectionist that he won’t stop until he feels like he has his masterpiece. It’s like Picasso, you [couldn’t] tell Picasso when something was ready. And I can respect that, I feel like if he puts out material [and] it’s not good, everybody’s gonna trash it and say, ‘This is bullsh*t.'” (SOHH)

In October, Diddy announced the delayed album’s current release date.

“What’s up y’all,” Diddy said in a video. “It’s your boy. I’m about to start doing a lot of Diddy blogging. Last Train to Paris coming out December 14th. December 14th. December 14th. I’m just trying to show off my sh*t, yeah. Check it out, we here, at the video shoot for this joint called ‘Loving You No More,’ Rodney Jerkins produced it. This is how we kick it, super fly n*gga sh*t.” (P Twitty TV)

A week prior, Diddy opened up about his album release fears.

“There’s definitely nerves. It’s nerve-wracking because there’s more singing for me. You have a new concept, and it took people a while to buy into it,” he explained. He added that despite the new direction of Diddy-Dirty Money, he’s not about to totally abandon his past. “I think a lot of times people forget how many hits I’ve had,” Diddy added. “I take pride in having hit records that still play in clubs now. I take people on a musical journey, and when we bring that up to date it just gets even more intense.” (NME)
