Detroit rapper Dej Loaf has stepped forward to talk about her steamy “Me U & Hennessy” song and dished on rap star Lil Wayne remixing the anthem.
Despite making a name for herself with the gritty “Try Me” tune, Loaf said she felt comfortable treating fans to her more sensual side.
“I only did it because I wanted to do it,” she says. “I felt comfortable. And everything I do, I do it because I want to do it. You know, people are being like, ‘Oh, they got her doing this now, the industry changed her,’ and it’s like, ‘No.’ [Laughs] They just think it’s just all this crazy Illuminati-type sh*t. Like, I did it because I wanted to do it. (XXL Mag)
Dej also dished on Lil Wayne speaking up for the fellas with his remixed version.
“It’s really like a personal song. Some songs don’t need to be touched sometimes, and if it was going to be touched, I wanted it to be great,” she says. “So he did a great job – I was going crazy. I was like, ‘Wow, he really did it. This crazy.’ I knew he was going to do it just the way he did it.” (XXL Mag)
Loaf appeared on “The Tonight Show” last fall to perform “Try Me.”
Dej Loaf made her late night debut yesterday (Nov. 24) on The Tonight Show with a little help from The Roots. The first timer wasn’t nervous to be on and looked comfortable on stage, making it clear this was her show. Dressed in a wrap-around sweater and a pair of glitter slip-on sneakers, the Detroit rapper showed us exactly why Drake is such a fan. (CBS Local)

Last year, Loaf revealed rap star Eminem’s pal Royce Da 5’9 reached out to her last summer about appearing on their “Detroit Vs. Everybody” track.
“He was like, ‘I got this record,’ and I wasn’t sure if they were gonna make it. He said it would be [a track] called Detroit vs. Everybody, but I didn’t know it was gonna be Eminem.” The song features Danny Brown, Big Sean, Royce da 5’9″ Trick Trick, and Dej. When we spoke, she hadn’t even heard the anthem yet. It’s still surreal to her. “What would you do,” she asks. “How would you feel?” (Metro Times)
Her first mixtape, Pinch a Loaf, is an underground classic.
