Hollywood actor Damon Wayans Jr. has come forward to speak out on the controversy surrounding NBA star Dwyane Wade in light of recently welcoming a newborn with his kids' mother, Aja Metoyer.
Despite the speculation, Wayans said the situation does not directly impact him but wanted to make sure his daughters did not get hurt from the controversy.
We broke the story … Wade’s new baby mama is Aja Metoyer, who already has two children with “New Girl” star Damon Wayans Jr. (Wade claims he and fiancee Gabrielle Union were on a break when the child was conceived). Now, Damon tells TMZ Sports, “I really have nothing to do with Aja’s situation. We both live completely separate lives, aside from co-parenting.” He continues, “My concern are my daughters and that they don’t get hurt in any of this.” Aja’s baby Xavier Wade was born on Nov. 10, 2013 … and Damon tells us his two daughters “love their little brother and that’s all I care about.” (TMZ Sports)
Reports this week revealed the one-month-old’s name is Xavier Zechariah Wade and his mother is 30-year-old Aja Metoyer.
11:30 AM PT — TMZ Sports has learned … Aja’s two other children were fathered by “Happy Endings” star Damon Wayans Jr. … the son of “In Living Color” legend Damon Wayans (obviously). Now, we know the kid was born in Los Angeles on Nov. 10, 2013 … just 6 weeks before Wade popped the question to Gabrielle, who he’s been dating since 2009. According to the birth certificate, Wade’s baby mama is 30-year-old Aja Metoyer. The details of their relationship are basically unknown, except the obvious fact they have a kid together. (TMZ)
After mounted pressure and speculation, D-Wade cleared the air on the baby gossip Monday (December 30).
“I’m in the public eye, so obviously that’s a part of it. It comes with the territory. But, it’s kind of … as I’ve always done my whole life … is always focus on what’s most important to me and my family, and that’s being a great father. I’ve always tried to show my importance in my kids’ lives and it doesn’t change now. So, me and my lady and my family have continued to move forward and I think that’s evident with the ring and the proposal that I gave her with our lives. But, yeah, I had a time a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy. So, I’m moving on.” (Miami Herald)
Despite being engaged to actress Gabrielle Union, Wade promised to be a good father to his son.
“Yeah, I’ve got a chance to see him. You know me. I’m involved in my kids’ lives. When my kids were living at home with me, or wasn’t living at home with me, I tried to do everything I could to see them. Obviously I got custody of them for different reasons, but nothing changes with my life. Like I’ve said, this is something that my family knows and my now fiancée worked through when we got back together, and understood that we wanted to continue our lives together and continue supporting our family and we’re going to do that. That’s what I’ve always done.” (Miami Herald)
