Crunchy said surviving a near-fatal shooting has only helped to motivate him in the booth.

“I’m in the studio just trying to get some motherf*cking songs done up, you know what I’m talking about, and show these folks ain’t no stopping me, man,” Crunchy said with bandages over his face. “Every time I find out I’ve got another group of haters, man, it just helps me out a little more to keep on pushing and pushing. So yeah, it motivates me like a motherf*cker.” (Too Real For TV)

Details on what injuries he endured landed online a couple days ago.

Crunchy Black — a former member of the rap group Three 6 Mafia — is recovering after being shot in the face and the leg in Las Vegas earlier this month … TMZ has learned. According to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Black — real name Darnell Carlton — was shot at 3:30 AM on July 1st. Cops say they have located a “possible scene where multiple rounds had been fired” … but no suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Cops say the case is now being investigated as an attempted murder. So far, cops have not released a possible motive. (TMZ)

Reports of the shooting did not make headlines until nearly 48 hours after the incident.

While details remain scarce at this time, it has been confirmed that Crunchy Black of Three 6 Mafia has been shot and is currently hospitalized. A photo has been released of Crunchy Black, legally known as Darnell Carlton, laying in a hospital bed recovering. Based off of the photo, it looks as though the gun shot wound has done some serious damage. (Vlad TV)

The Southern rapper left Three 6 Mafia in summer 2006 to pursue a solo career.

XXLMAG.COM has learned that Three 6 Mafia group member Crunchy Black is no longer with the Memphis-based trio. While the details surrounding the split remain sketchy, a spokesman for Sony Records confirmed today that the rapper has not been with the group since May, and that his departure was his decision and he was not asked to leave by fellow members Juicy J and DJ Paul.
