Young Money‘s Cory Gunz has revealed his past dream to sign a recording contract with Eminem‘s popular Shady Records empire.
Although now aligned with Lil Wayne‘s camp, Cory said he always respected Slim Shady.
“I always had great admiration for Eminem, and growing up, any of my close friends knew that if I had a choice when I was younger I would always say that I would sign to Shady or Aftermath,” Cory explained in an interview. “At the end of the day, I really didn’t get a chance to get in front of Em and really let him hear any music or anything like that. But everything happens for a reason. I’m blessed to be here by choice of God. Honestly, I’m playing for one of the biggest teams. I’m like Lebron [James] right now and the Heat.” (BET)
Cory also acknowledged Em’s recent new Shady Records signings.
“He just signed Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf,” Cory added. “I got a lot of respect for those artists too, on a colleague level. And on a skill level, they dope. It’s still love — I’m playing for the winning team and I’m happy to be here.” (BET)
Last May, Cory talked about being on the same team as YM stars Drake and Nicki Minaj.
“Shout out to Wayne for giving me a shot. He kept it real. All I’mma say, that this is it. This is what it is. Everybody just better get ready…Wayne is gonna executive-produce the album,” he explained in an interview. “I trust his insight. He’s going to be overseeing everything. I’m gonna keep doing the things I been doing. I think that’s what’s gotten me noticed. I’mma just keep my grind moving. Whatever ventures I can do, I’m bringing my family through. My whole team is gonna eat. I’m just telling everybody to get ready…I haven’t met Nicki [Minaj] yet. Me and Drizzy met a while back when they was doing the I Am Music Tour in Arizona.” (MTV)
In December 2009, Gunz received praise from actor/rapper Nick Cannon.
“I met Cory when he was like fourteen at a mix show summit and knew he would be doing big things then. This [Adult Swim program] is the project I’m most excited about right now. It’s about a one-hit wonder rap group living in Atlanta partying and going to strip clubs, but still making it to church on Sunday.” (VIBE)
