Rapper-turned-actor Common recently spoke on his role in the upcoming Terminator Salvation film and returning to the big screen.
In addition to speaking on his role, he also detailed the preparation for starring in a possible Hollywood blockbuster.
“The preparation for this was a little different because you are dealing with a post-apocalyptic time, which is a time where no one can go and do research and say they lived in that time period,” Common explained. You can only imagine what it’s like to live in a world that’s been destroyed and then be in that place…My character, Barnes, is part of the resistance. He’s like a spiritual revolutionary soldier. I look at my character as someone who’s down for the spiritual fight and is a warrior…I’m pretty good with guns. I try not to involve myself with them in my everyday life. As an actor, I’ve become really good with guns.” (Black Voices)
Common also recently spoke on his reaction to landing his movie role.
“Man, it’s like, when you get Terminator, like, I’m interested,” he explained in an interview. “I know that’s a classic, I know that’s a legacy right there. To know Terminator and then I heard Christian Bale, then [director] McG, I was like ah man, this is a great combination so I was ready. And then read the script and seen how good it was, I was like cool. We’re moving there.” (Manny The Movie Guy)
The film will reportedly take place nearly a decade from today’s time.
Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet?s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind. Aside from Terminator, Common recently spoke on the possibility of having a role in the upcoming A-Team film.
“I can’t speak on it yet until we know what’s going on but that would be an incredible character to play,” Common explained. “I can’t do the Mohawk but we got to do something, we got to find something to make it work… I would love to [do it], just to work with Joe [Carnahan] is so exciting…You know you need to keep your pace and patience and let things develop… I want it to be as diverse as possible, [but] first of all I don’t want to act like I’ve been given the role of B.A. So let me be honest about that…[But] it’s great to be in those talks.” (IESB)
