In light of Uncle Luke highlighting Ice-T's marriage as a perfect model for rappers to follow, SOHH recently spoke to the music veteran and his wife Coco about what makes a solid partnership.
Ice believes high profile marriages like his work because there is a mutual commitment on both sides.
“You gotta love the person you’re with,” Ice-T laughingly told SOHH. “It shouldn’t be a marriage of convenience or think it’s something that’ll look good for the press. You gotta find somebody that you really dig. You have to be a fan of your mate. Back in the days, people got married and it was some fairytale thing. Now, it’s more of a business partnership. You have to become real teammates. I tell Coco all the time, it’s hard enough for one person to make it in the world, so if you’re two, it should be easier. Hopefully, not harder.” (SOHH)
Coco also said a general interest in your significant other’s career is vital to making a marriage work.
“You gotta like what they do, too,” Coco added. “As far as I go, I didn’t really know a lot about rap but I liked Ice as a person. So whatever he was in to, I was in to and I had to get in to because I started having to research it a little bit. Just like me. He met me modeling so he kind of had to become a fan of me modeling. He probably never thought about that before.” (SOHH)
Last June, Ice-T and Coco renewed their wedding vows.
Rapper-actor Ice-T and wife Coco said “I do” for the second time on Friday, renewing their wedding vows after five-and-a-half years. The couple walked down the aisle at Hollywood’s W Hotel in front of a motley crew of friends, including Tila Tequila, Snoop Dogg, Flavor Flav and Archbishop Don (Magic) Juan. The glowing bride, 32, turned heads in a beaded white dress that put her famed assets on full display and topped the look off with a matching tiara. Ice-T, 53, kept it simple with a white tuxedo and silver tie. (New York Daily News)
Earlier this week, Uncle Luke named Ice-T, Jay-Z and other high profile rappers for being loyal husbands.
“We rappers have always prided ourselves on not dating someone else’s ex-girlfriends or ex-wives. This will come as a shock to some people, but if we have a relationship, it’s with just one woman. Look at Jay-Z. He’s been committed to Beyoncé for some time. Will Smith, Run-D.M.C., Ice Cube, Ice-T, and I are other examples of loyal, dedicated husbands in hip-hop. Wiz Khalifa, like some members of his generation, has gotten soft. They are losing their focus. They can’t spot a triflin’ woman in the room to save their lives.” (Miami New Times)
