R&B singer Frank Ocean may not have pressed criminal charges against music rival Chris Brown earlier this year, however, new reports claim Breezy is not yet out of the dog house.
According to new reports, Chris B. could face battery charges over his altercation with Ocean in January.
It turns out that the case wasn’t actually closed, and Brown is currently under criminal investigation for the fight. The D.A.’s office has an active file on the case, even though Ocean never formally pressed charges against Brown. Instead, he urged “sanity” and “forgiveness,” even though Brown called him a gay slur and threatened to shoot him during their encounter. The D.A. may still be able to pursue the case, even with the lack of a cooperating witness, if there is compelling evidence. The fight may come up during Chris Brown’s probation review hearing Monday. As part of his probation for his 2009 assault on Rihanna, Brown is required to obey all laws. He is expected to appear in court for the hearing. (Inquisitr)
Back in March, Brown made sure to diffuse speculated issues between him and Ocean following the incident.
“With the Frank Ocean situation, I’ll put it like this, it’s in the past. Some stuff went down, but it’s whatever. It’s always sensationalized and always blown out of proportion. I got respect for his music. I got respect for everybody else, so I ain’t really trying to really go back down that route. Everything for me is moving forward. I do my music now so I’m good.” (Power 106)
In February, details of Brown and Ocean’s physical altercation popped up online.
Frank Ocean told police he was called a “f**got” during his brawl with Chris Brown … moments before Brown threatened to shoot him — this according to the official incident report obtained by TMZ. According to the report, Ocean told police, Brown had punched him in the face after Ocean told Brown he had taken Ocean’s parking space at the recording studio where the fight took place last week. Ocean told police Brown tried to shake his hand, but Ocean refused, telling Brown he was in his parking spot. Ocean claimed that’s when Brown punched him in the face. According to the report, Ocean said two of Brown’s goons then jumped in to help Brown … pushed him into a corner and attempted to kick him. (TMZ)
Despite the graphic details, Ocean issued an open statement a few days prior and said he would not press criminal charges.
“AS A CHILD I THOUGHT IF SOMEONE JUMPED ME IT WOULD RESULT IN ME MURDERING OR MUTILATING A MAN. BUT AS A MAN I AM NOT A KILLER. I’M AN ARTIST AND A MODERN PERSON. I’LL CHOOSE SANITY. NO CRIMINAL CHARGES. NO CIVIL LAWSUIT. FORGIVENESS, ALBEIT DIFFICULT, IS WISDOM. PEACE, ALBEIT TRITE, IS WHAT I WANT IN MY SHORT LIFE. PEACE.” (Frank Ocean’s Tumblr)
