Days after R&B singer Chris Brown appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to reportedly to request a revision to the restraining order placed against him by ex-girlriend Rihanna, a representative has stepped forward to clarify the reports.

According to Brown’s rep, the request had nothing to do with wanting to avoid a Rihanna run-in at next month’s Grammy Awards.

The singer’s representative has dismissed reports that his lawyer asked a judge to relax a restraining order against him so he can attend the upcoming Grammy Awards at the same time as his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown’s publicist has moved swiftly to deny claims the singer wanted the ban relaxed so he can go to the Grammys in February without running the risk of breaking the restraining order. The spokesperson tells TMZ.com, “This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys.” Brown is up for three awards at the annual prizegiving. (Love Style)

Brown appeared in a Los Angeles court last Friday (January 28).

The singer, along with his legal ace attorney Mark Geragos arrived to the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles and appeared calm and collected before the judge. Geragos told Judge Patricia Schnegg that his client has completed his 52 week domestic violence counseling and requested she remove the existing restraining order against Brown. “It makes it difficult at award shows and such,” Geragos said. Judge Schnegg did not immediately grant his request but did suggest a modification with the approval of Rihanna’s attorney, David Etra. (Radar Online)

Despite grabbing a hold of Rihanna’s attorney, Etra said he needed to speak with his client before making any modification.

Before the request can be granted, Rihanna’s attorney must approve of the modification from a “stay away” order to a “do not annoy.” Brown is scheduled to remain on probation until 2014. Despite his three nominations, the 21-year-old star’s rep recently told the APthat he was not currently scheduled to attend next month’s Grammy Awards. (Rap-Up)

Last December, Brown completed a court-ordered domestic violence course.

“i have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class.. Boyz run from there mistakes.. Men learn from them!!!thx,” Brown tweeted Tuesday. (Chris Brown’s Twitter)
