This report ignited the Interscope drop rumors…

Buzz about Keef possibly being released from Interscope bubbled online yesterday (October 21).

Update: Keef posted a text conversation with Chicago rapper Lucki Eck$ to Twitter that if accurate, reveal that he’s officially no longer on Interscope and hasn’t been for a week now. 19-year-old Keith “Chief Keef” Cozart has been dropped from his Interscope Records deal after clashes with label brass about future releases and a string of high-profile incidents, ranging from lawsuits to drug offenses. Earlier this year, Keef’s manager Peeda Pan revealed rap star Kanye West hooked up with Chief for his Bang 3 project.

“Yeah, they working on a few songs for each other’s projects,” says Keef’s manager Peeda Pan, who was responsible for taking the flick. “Kanye will definitely be on Keef’s album on Bang 3.” After the photo circulated on the Internet, loyal followers of the two Chicago MCs were speculating if they were in the midst of recording something. Peeda Pan says Kanye initially wanted to connect with Keef and the two just clicked once again. “He reached out and its great for someone like Kanye from Chicago and where he stands in the game to be able to reach out to that younger generation of Chicago and for them to be able to work,” he says. “I’ll just put it to you like this: They have several new songs. They’ll be collaborating and they’ll be released this year.” (XXL Mag)

Last year, G-Unit head 50 Cent said he tried to steer Keef onto the right path but his words fell on deaf ears.

“The Chief Keef project is the 50 Cent project. It’s the same project,” 50 Cent told DJ Jenny Boom Boom regarding the similarities between himself and Keef, whose growing rap sheet threatens to outstrip his music. “He’s completely influenced by his environment, but that’s the nightmare,” 50 Cent continued, comparing Keef’s legal battles with ones he fought earlier in his own career. “I actually was attracted to the Chief Keef thing because I was like, I can help him. I know what to do. He didn’t listen, so I wouldn’t actually offer (what was said) to the general public. To reach out to him and actually talk to him, I did that. He’s a man, a young man. My son is a year younger than him. So when I’m talking to him, he don’t have to take it. I’m not his father, that’s his business.” (Radio)

  1. this what happen when your mom fuck with people you hang out with..nigga 19 going on no longer alive

  2. As dumb as Keef comes off some times, I gotta applaud his mentality! By him being independent, either he is going to get rich or go broke(No in between). If he stays with the mentality he is in now, he should be good.

  3. Dam. Not even Interscope can stop this shyt machine. Somebody get the Expendables…

  4. Should have stayed indy in the first place, same with that shmurda cat. It’s more work but it’s more bread. Keep some college educated guys in your circle. Do like LeBron send a couple of them young’ns to school for business and when they get that degree and have a understanding of what needs to be done, shake that white boss and hire yo trues but on some real business shit, hell tata ain’t still around jayz for nothing yell

    • Is it more bread though? Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay-z, and 50 Cent (all non independent artists when they were peaking) would beg to differ.

      • Those artist you name require a major to get them out the right way in terms of globally without having to do much besides make music and perform. Your own indie label can still do numbers, but it boils down to your work ethic and the people around you work ethic. I haven’t read too much positive things about this kid to show any signs that he will reclaim the once buzz he had.

His actions are predictable and shows his arrogance in the aftermath of all this. Being humble gets you a long way.

        • I think the point he was making was Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay-Z don’t go indy because it doesn’t equal more money. The whole thing about making $8 an album is false. Established artist would jump on that deal if it was true. A very small few Indy artist made lots of money. miller and Tech9ne. If they was major, they would flop. They don’t sell millions of records. But they have a fanbase that can sell a few hundred thousand, Chief doesn’t. Most indy artist make nothing. 50 went Indy and didn’t make a profit. He has the money and work ethics to promote like he is major and still didn’t sell. He needs major business investments to make money.

          • Indy artist do make money, 50 just invested more than his actual return. Mac Miller made a few millions prior to new label deal. It’s a gamble, I just think Keef is putting on a front like he doesn’t need them.
