Chicago rapper Chief Keef is once again making headlines for riding shotgun with a pal driving his car being taken into police custody early today (June 11) for speeding.
Reports of the messy situation sprouted online Tuesday afternoon.
On June 11, around 2:50 a.m., officers clocked a BMW SUV traveling 88 mph on the Edens Expressway, according to police. The driver, Will R. Lauthan, 19, of Chicago, was taken into custody, charged with excessive speeding and released on bond, police say. One of the passengers in the vehicle was Keith Cozart, 17, of Northbrook, also known as the rapper Chief Keef, according to police. Cozart and other passengers did not receive citations, police say. Last week, 1017 Brick Squad leader Gucci Mane said he hoped artists like Keef would learn from the mistakes he has made.
“I take responsibility for some of that bad stigma that comes from me. A lot of the things I have done, I regret. And a lot of it [I warranted]. A lot of it, it be false claims,” Gucci revealed. “Media take it and make they own assumptions…A lot of things don’t have a lot of truth in them…My advice would be to him [Chief Keef], and any other young guy, is to learn from…try not to do the same thing that I did.” (Power 107.5)
Back in mid-May, Chief found himself in handcuffs on a drug possession charge.
Keith Cozart, known as the rapper Chief Keef, was arrested by Dunwoody, Ga. PD yesterday for disorderly conduct, EW has confirmed. The news was first reported by TMZ. “On May 20, 2013 at [2:51 p.m.], officers responded to 111 Perimeter Center West, LeMeridien Hotel, in reference to an illegal drug activity call. Hotel security had observed smoke and a smell of marijuana from a room,” a police spokesperson said in a statement. Officers spoke with Keef and he was subsequently arrested. (Entertainment Weekly)
Days later, he was arrested outside of Chicago for speeding.
17-year-old Chief Keef was caught ON TAPE shattering the speed limit in Illinois this week — allegedly doing 110mph in a 55mph zone — and TMZ has dash cam footage of the subsequent police chase … and arrest. The video starts out pretty tame — until out of nowhere, Keef barrels past the idling police cruiser in his BMW X6 M … and the cops peel out after him. It takes roughly two minutes for officers to catch up to Keef and pull him over. As we reported, Keef was eventually arrested for speeding and having too many people in his car (he only has a driving permit). The arrest is also on tape. But the best part — wait ’til you hear the arresting officer’s voice when he finds out Keef’s got $8,000 CASH in his pocket … (TMZ)
