Details of the reported investigation and police involvement bubbled online Tuesday (December 11).

Rick Ross says he’s not hiding from gang members who made death threats against him — but the Chicago Police Department took the videotaped message seriously enough to launch an investigation … TMZ has learned. You’ll recall … self-proclaimed members of the Chicago-based Gangster Disciples posted a video (below) — in which they demand Rick Ross cut a check for GD founder Larry Hoover … or else. The video went viral a few weeks ago, and Ross then cancelled the remaining dates on his tour. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … the Chicago PD was made aware of the video, and will be taking a closer look at the YouTube post. (TMZ)

This week, Ross killed speculation and hype which suggested he nixed his Maybach Music Group concert due to the threat of violence.

“It never was due to any threats. Not to cut you off but let me explain something to you, I’m a certified man, I am a real boss and this is something that everybody needs to understand. Gangsters move in silence. Gangsters move in silence. And in situations like that, I just remember something an old-school Dade County gangster told me a long time ago that any dude can stand in the crowd with 30, 40 dudes and everybody real, everybody trill, everybody about that life, everybody gangster, you understand? But when those choppers come out, everybody fold.” (99 Jamz)

“The Boss” decided to pull the plug on his MMG run late last week despite a handful of scheduled shows still planned.

Now, it looks like the threats may not have played a part, after all: Ross has canceled the remainder of his MMG tour, with his reps citing “apparent lack of organization and communication on the part of the tour promoter. I want to apologize to all of my fans who I missed performing for due to the cancellations and want to let them know that I will get back to their cities. I enjoyed my experience with my little bros Wale and Meek Mill and I’m ready to get back in the studio to make good music. The tour was scheduled to go through December 16. (Idolator)

Initial reports claimed threats to his life forced Ross to nix a few North Carolina appearances.

A Maybach Music Group concert tour headlining Rick Ross was scheduled to appear Friday in Greensboro and Saturday at the Bojangles Coliseum. Rappers Wale and Meek Mill were scheduled to appear as well. The theats stem from the Gangster Disciples, who have a beef with Ross. The North Carolina Chapter recently put out a YouTube video warning him to stay out of Charlotte. (Charlotte Observer)
