Vazquez hopped onto her Twitter page to address the controversy and downplay its authenticity.

Melo, Lala and Garnett all remained mum over the drama until now. Lala took the opportunity to address the on-the-court trash talk on Twitter, making light of the situation: “Not for nothing, but we ALL deserve a check or some free cereal for all the publicity we’ve given Honey Nut Cheerios! LOL #cantbelieveeverything.” Garnett’s coach Doc Rivers has gone on record defending his star forward, claiming those comments were never made. (RumorFix)

The allegation turned into a hot topic last night (January 10) during Thursday’s NBA On TNT.

It was only a matter of time before someone honest to God deeply speculated why Kevin Garnett (maybe) chose Honey Nut Cheerios to describe the taste of Carmelo Anthony’s wife. Naturally, leave it to Charles Barkley to deconstruct Kevin Garnett’s (alleged) choice cereal so damn literally. Wait, does Chuck know whether or not LaLa Vasquez tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios? Probably not, since he never used to eat them as a child. This was funny for a while, but things got seriously weird when Ernie Johnson asked Kenny Smith if he had a Honey nut Cheerio stuck in his throat, you know, because of the Vasquez business. Luckily, we can always count on Shaq to save the awkward and talk about his dream breakfast. Apparently the whole Inside the NBA crew just loves Frosted Flakes. There’s other cereals, you know. Melo ultimately ended up getting suspended for one game over the alleged Cheerios comment’s aftermath.

“There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game,’ NBA executive vice president of operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. ‘Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a suspension was warranted.’ Anthony will miss the Knicks’ nationally televised game at Indiana on Thursday and lose about $176,700 of his $19.4 million salary. Recent reports claim Anthony and Vazquez have lived apart since last year.

Sources told Page Six this week that Carmelo and La La have been living separately, but friends close to the Knick’s wife say she’ll stand by her man and won’t split from the NBA star. “It is true they haven’t seen much of each other in the past few months,” says a friend of the couple. “She’s been away a lot filming her show, ‘La La’s Full Court Life,’ in London, New York and LA. They are not separated and are still together. She and Melo have a house in LA — so she’s always there when she’s doing auditions.” (NY Post)
