Dipset leader Cam’ron recently delved into his overnight decision to put together a series of capes and revealed what countries have started to demand his new signature fashion line.
According to Killa, his motivation for whipping together a series of superhero-like attire stemmed from him wanting to break the norm.
“I just don’t like dressing like nobody else dresses,” Cam said when asked about his cape line. “I was like, ‘I’mma bust is out and see how it go.’ But then it turned real designer – we’re talking about doing a line in Switzerland and London because there’s a big demand for it over there. I gotta rock it for a minute. I can’t let it go South that fast but I’ll think of something else.” (Complex TV)
Recently, Cam collaborator Smoke DZA hit up SOHH and compared the rap veteran’s new cape line to the early 2000’s pink craze he started.
“I’m co-signing the capes for Killa,” Smoke told SOHH. “Only for Killa. I’m not co-signing the capes for nobody else. People gotta just let that man do what he do. It’s just like when he was doing the pink [fashion trend] and you’d go outside and see some n*gga with a dirty pink shirt on. That ain’t for everybody. Pink’s not for everybody just like the cape’s ain’t for everybody. But the Kush God is f*cking with the cape. It’s because he’s a Harlem n*gga. Anything he does, he owns it.” (SOHH)
A few weeks ago, Cam spoke out on the unexpected launch of his capes.
Last week was a big one for Cam’ron and JuJu. We were the first ones to report on their epic appearance on the runway at Mark Mcnairy‘s 2014 New York Fashion week. In front of a bougie fashion crowd, Killa showed off his new Dipset capes with his first lady right there to back him up. In a strange transaction of introductions, Info was able to plug Cam with Mark last year who ended up making him four custom capes just in time for his new albums. “I’ve been different my whole career,” Cam’ron says. “Being around this long, you just think of ways to reinvent yourself. I just thought that this would be fly.” (Miss Info TV)
Killa Cam recently jumped onto his Instagram page and raised eyebrows with a throwback PRO-Keds Dipset sneaker photo.
Cam’ron took to instagram to hint at a possible Dipset sneaker that could be in the works. He posted a picture of PRO-Keds “Dipset” sneaker with the caption, “”Ima bring these back out.. Not wit ProKeds tho.. #StayTooned.” Given Cam’s affiliation with Reebok, it feasible to think he could collaborate with them for his very own Dipset sneaker. We know the collab won’t be with PRO-Keds because they are no longer making shoes, but a Reebok x Dipset mashup is something that is within the realm of possibility. (Sneaker Mob)
