After raising eyebrows this week with a response to Jay Z's "Pound Cake" verse, Dipset leader Cam'ron has stepped forward to provide some clarity.

In Killa Cam’s opinion, Jay could have rephrased his bars but instead went with a witty name-dropping verse to catch attention.

“Not really shocked, that’s just mad random. I thought it came from nowhere basically. Just to clarify, I don’t think Jay was necessarily taking shots at me. I just stated the facts of the scenario. He said he made more millionaires than the lotto did, but I knew Jay when he didn’t have a million, when none of us had a million, when Dame and them were on the come-up. I respect what all of us have done because I know where we all come from. But the way he put his lyrics [together] and made it seem like he made n*ggas money or put them in the place where they was supposed to be… He could’ve worded it like he helped n*ggas make more millions, instead of saying you made n*ggas millionaires. … Yeah. It wasn’t nothing, but you know the streets and the blogs and the radio personalities turned it into whatever they wanted to turn it into. I’m fine with that.” (Karen Civil)

On his new “Come & Talk To Me” remix, Killa responds to Jigga’s claim of putting millions in his pockets during his early 2000’s run at the Roc.

“Know me I ran down on shorty real quick. But guess what she asked me, yo Word? She said Jay made you a millionaire and looked me in the eyes /Said cake, cake, cake got that from the pies /We made each other millions, that was my reply /But had a mill before I met him, baby, that ain’t no lie /See he named some Harlem cats and the homie from the Chi /But my thing, he ain’t name nobody from the Stuy /And I do it like Bed-Stuy, do or die” (“Come & Talk To Me”)

Some music bloggers interpreted Cam’s comments as a diss toward Jay.

Jay Z is as we all know from Marcy Projects located in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. He named six people in “Pound Cake” and not one of them are from Brooklyn, so Cam’ron is implying that Jay never put on for his neighborhood. (Rap Genius)

In Jigga’s “Pound Cake” verse, he refers to making current and former Roc associates millionaires including Killa.

“Cake, cake-cake, cake-cake, cake /500 million, I got a pound cake /N*ggas is fronting, that’s upside-down cake /Get ’em a red nose, they clown cakes /They shoulda never let you ’round cake /Look at my neck, I got a carrot cake /Now here’s the icing on the cake /Cake, cake-cake, cake-cake, uhh /I’m just getting started, oh, yeah, we got it bitch /I’ve done made more millionaires than the lotto did /Dame made millions, Biggs made millions /Ye made millions, Just made millions /Lyor made millions, Cam made millions /Beans’ll tell you if he wasn’t in his feelings” (“Pound Cake”)

Back in 2009, Cam said despite his past diss records, he had no real problems with Hov.

“I heard Mase, I just got back in town, I was in Florida,” Cam said about Mase’s buzz as of late. “Shout-out to Mase, I wish him luck…I ain’t got no problems with Jay-Z. On the real, I don’t even f*ck with Jay-Z, but I got mad respect for the n*gga. Anybody who make money, got a million dollars to their name, I respect anybody who make money. I respect MC Hammer when Hammer was getting money. Personally? I don’t really know the n*gga, I f*cked with Dame [Dash] and Biggs. But I ain’t got no problems.” (Sub 0 DVD)
