Dipset leader Cam’ron has broken his silence on why his relationship with Juelz Santana came to an unexpected end, citing the rapper’s alleged addiction to syrup.
In an interview with hip-hop personality Miss Info, Killa detailed what caused the duo to break ties.
“Juelz started drinking syrup, Robitussin,” Cam’ron said. “He got hooked on it, addicted to it, you go to the studio he got, like, a hundred Hawaiian Punches already pre-mixed with the stuff in it. So I kinda stopped speaking to him like, we already smoked mad weed, we don’t need to be on Robitussin. I called his mother about it. I called his closest friends about it. They knew it, knew about it. They was like, ‘Yo Cam it’s not that bad’…I’m like yo, that’s like saying you just smoke a little bit of crack, it ain’t that much crack…So that’s kinda how I shot away from Juelz. It was even a point where Jim [Jones] called me like, ‘What’s going on with you and Juelz’…I said, he’s on drugs.” (Miss Info)
Cam made headlines last summer for selling Santana’s contract to Def Jam Records.
Seems there is more changes happening for Harlem, NY, representatives, The Diplomats. According to a recent report, Cam’ron has sold Juelz Santana’s contract with them, to Def Jam Records for a cool $2 Million. Juelz was asked by Miss Info about his move to Def Jam and he responded, “Yeah, I’m free!! And ready to do me!! But its still Dip Set 4 life!! Its just going to be a new chapter!!” (Def Sounds)
Juelz previously spoke with SOHH about how he felt about the break-up of Dipset.
“I wish we could have made it work because it would have made it that much better,” he said. “I was a real humble dude when people thought I was getting too big for my britches I never was. I always let it be known, being a firm soldier on a team. It didn’t work out that way so they forced me to be a boss. I was always a boss in my own way, but as far as Diplomats everybody knew who the boss of that was, it was Cam. Everybody played their position. He had a lot of good people around him. Much love to Cam, I wish him all the best.” (SOHH)
Cam is largely responsible for launching the Skull Gang leader’s music career.
Born LaRon James in Harlem, the energetic Juelz Santana cut his teeth as an MC with the duo Draft Pick. He didn’t hit the big time until 2000, when Cam’ron granted him a guest spot on S.D.E.‘s “Double Up.” Santana became a member of Cam’ron’s Diplomats, contributed a number of verses on other MCs’ tracks, and made his full-length debut with 2003’s From Me to U. “Dipset (Santana’s Town),” easily the best track off the release, barely dented the charts but deserved a lot better.
