Former No Limit Records rapper C-Murder temporarily experienced life as a free man despite serving a life sentence by attending a relative's funeral over the weekend.

C-Murder was granted a brief moment of freedom to attend his grandmother’s funeral over the weekend. C-Murder–whose real name is Cory Miller–was given permission to leave the Angola State Penitentiary, where he was captured in several photos enjoying some time with family members. The incarcerated rapper is currently serving a life sentence for a second-degree murder charge stemming from a club shooting several years ago. Miller looked to have some restrictions, though, as he was shown still handcuffed and wore an orange jumpsuit. However, his brother Master P and his nephew Romeo were happy to see him in good shape. “Being able to just sit & have a conversation w/my uncle @iamcmurder was a blessing. We gonna get you home Uncle C! Love ya #bestmoment #ripbigmamma,” Romeo wrote on his Instagram. (XXL Mag)
Back in February, Murder had an appeal rejected by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has passed up another chance to deal with an anomaly of constitutional law that requires federal juries to reach unanimous verdicts in criminal cases, but allows states to make different rules. The court on Tuesday rejected the appeal of the rapper known as C-Murder, who is serving a life sentence for killing a 16-year-old fan in Louisiana. A jury voted 10-2 to convict the rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller. Louisiana and Oregon are the only two states that allow for non-unanimous convictions for some crimes. (US News)
In December 2011, Murder received the same fate at the hands of a Louisiana appeals court.
A three-judge panel from the state’s 5th Circuit Court of Appeal on Wednesday rejected Miller’s argument that he didn’t get a fair trial. In 2009, a jury convicted Miller of second-degree murder for shooting 16-year-old Steve Thomas during a confrontation at a nightclub. Miller claims the judge who presided over his trial allowed jurors to hear prejudicial and unsubstantiated testimony that he threatened witnesses to the shooting. He also accused prosecutors of systematically eliminating black people from the jury. But the 5th Circuit rejected those arguments. (CBS News)
The rapper’s brother, Master P, spoke to SOHH four years ago about his legal woes.
“Your image can get you incarcerated and take a lot of things away from you,” P explained. “I think he realizes that right now and he definitely will be fighting an appeal but it takes times. It might take two to three years. He’s innocent from his crimes, everybody knows that but that goes to show you how your image and all the stuff from your past — it makes others think ‘Oh, you know this guy’s name is C-Murder, so he’s guilty.’ They don’t even look at, ‘Oh you wasn’t in the club, you didn’t pull the trigger.’ Man, your image can really describe your life.” (SOHH)
