Busta also included artists like Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa and Reek Da Villain in his list.

“I give it up to J. Cole, he’s one of my favorite new MCs,” Busta said in an interview. “Very creative, his spit game is incredible to me. I think he delivers well and he’s been exemplifying consistency…I gotta big up Drake. It’s not every day that you come across one of those dudes that have the ability to just do so many different things and still sound extremely thorough in every area…”Nicki Minaj is doing a wonderful job, not just as a female artist but as [an] MC period. She’s displaying an ability that most dudes ain’t even been able to deliver as consistently on…”I like the Wiz Khalifa dude. I’m very interested in seeing how his thing is coming together because it seems like it’s coming together very organically…I gotta big up Reek Da Villian, [who] is one of the new MCs. I been working with him for about three years.” (Rap Fix)

In late July, Wiz Khalifa announced a deal with Atlantic Records.

“Yeah, I’m signing to Atlantic,” Khalifa said. “We’ve been working on it for a minute. I wanted to make sure that I had records that I was comfortable with before I went to any label or any situation. I wanted to make sure I had my direction so when I take it to them it’s like, ‘Let’s go.’ … It’s a huge honor for [Rick Ross] to even extend a hand like that. [It’s] crazy for him to even look out like that. Me and Ross is always gonna be working. He sees my vision. I think he gets what I’m trying to do. Even if it ain’t no paperwork between me and Ross, it’s gonna be work done between me and Ross.” (MTV)

Last month, J. Cole talked about the buzz he and Drake have generated since hitting the scene in 2009.

“From a fan’s point of view, who are you going to get excited about [to] battle? I feel like that’s why people push the J.Cole/Drake thing so much, ’cause I think we’re probably the first two artists that fans are super excited about. The two that they would like to see go at it. I don’t blame ’em. But it’s just a sign of the times. Rap goes in cycles. I’m not promoting that, but I’m a competitive person in general, so I’m a fan of people throwing jabs and shots. That motivates me.” (VIBE)

While Nicki Minaj continues preparing her Pink Friday debut, the rapper’s Young Money labelmate Drake‘s first LP has already reached platinum status.

Young Money star Drake’s Thank Me Later took a hit dropping 18 spots to No. 38 with 13,700. After four months in stores, the rapper’s debut album has sold 1,099,700 copies. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
