Rap veteran Bun B recently expressed his admiration of Drake, noting the platinum-selling rapper’s passion for success.
According to Drake, his frequent collaborator does not plan on slowing down.
“[I see] the hunger and the passion for what he’s doing,” Bun said when asked why he supports him. “It’s still all very new to him so he’s really trying to embrace as much of it as he can without taking on too much too early. There’s just so many great opportunities available for him. He’s really just trying to make as much good music as he can. I just try to make sure that he doesn’t overwhelm himself. But when I see him, it reminds me of when I was coming in the game and how hungry I was and how ready I was to just attack and be heard and be seen and be known and let people realize my movement and that it’s not superficial. It’s something real. So I understand that kind of intensity. I see it in his eyes and I remember that look when I used to see the look in my eyes when I looked in the mirror in the morning. I still have that kind of hunger and passion. I think that’s why we make the kind of records we make, too.” (VIBE)
Recently, Bun opened up about featuring Drake on his new Trill O.G. album.
“Definitely look for some visuals for ‘Put It Down’ in the future,” Bun said in an interview. “As well as ‘It’s Been a Pleasure.’ We’re gonna try to put out a visual for as much of Trill O.G. as we can…It’s very hard to live up to the hype the people create for things nowadays; luckily, this song did. ‘Cause a lot of time, people build something up, and it’s almost impossible to match up to that. In this case, it matched up to it. And the fact that the other song, ‘It’s Been a Pleasure,’ is on it, as well, you get two for two. It’s always a good thing when me and the young boy get together. It’s special music. That’s how I feel, and I think that’s how Drizzy feels.” (MTV)
Last week, Drake celebrated his debut album Thank Me Later reaching the one million albums sold mark.
Young Money artist Drake’s Thank Me Later also moved down six slots to No. 18 with 20,200. After 11 weeks in stores, the rapper’s long-awaited debut has reached platinum status with 1,013,700 sold copies to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Despite the success as of late, the rapper recently discussed his early struggles and determination to make it in the music industry.
“At one point in my life, I was a kid who was lost,” Drake revealed in an interview with radio personality Sana G. “I knew I wanted to do music, but, I dropped out of high school against my mother’s wishes, who happens to be a retired teacher. A lot of people told me it was the wrong decision, that leaving acting was the wrong decision. A lot of the things I was doing was not the smartest choices but passion is what drove me. I’m not advising you to drop out of school, I’m just advising you to follow your heart and if you really believe in something and you project that, I believe that it does come back to you, so, I aligned myself with great people which I feel like is the key to success and here I am.” (106 KMEL)
