Brick City Throwdown: Jerry Wonda Vs. Lady Luck

Written By S. Samuel

Congrats to Round 1 winner R&B singer Kevin Cossom for burning J.R. Rotem with a 100% win. Today, we take a "New Jersey Drive" out to Brick City where Newark's Jerry Wonda (Bio/Twitter) takes on fellow city native Lady Luck in the Garden State. Will Jerry make the rapper cry over a "Lost One", or will luck get lucky? Whose list gets the props? You decide!

Redman. My man is from Jersey and I grew up in New Jersey. Real talk, every time I see him he’s spitting the right things in his music. All of that really gets to me. He’s been rapping like that for years.

Lil Wayne. I wish he had more substance but that boy Wayne talks crazy. I just wish he would talk about more. The way he puts things together sometimes is bonkers. He talks too crazy and plus I dig his range. He’s not afraid to try different music and he never misses a beat. I wish [he had] more substance but he talks insane.

You didn’t name Busta Rhymes in the Hall of Fame. Oh my God. Busta to me, he can never go away. He just keeps coming back. He can’t stop coming back. This guy spits so much. Nobody can take him down. In a face-to-face, nobody can take him down.

Joell Ortiz. He’s out of control. His style is unique. I’ve heard a lot of rappers in recent years but Joell is one of the only rappers that makes me want to write. When I hear Joell, he goes in.

Let me see. I want to name my man Ol’ Dirty Bastard. That’s my cat right there. We already know what it is with him. Dirty was always real. He would just speak. I love when people don’t do too much thinking and just let it out. That’s what he was. Whatever he said, he lived by.

T.I. is insane. Even if it’s not metaphors, the way he words stuff is crazy. I gotta pick somebody from a different region. I think T.I. talks crazy. He talks that pimp talk, that fast talk, that money talk. And the way he paints a picture is so crazy. It might not be metaphors all day but it’s that big money, big talk. I think T.I. is amazing.

Prodigy from Mobb Deep. Just listen to his tone. What he’s saying was already heavy but listen to his tone on the records. Even right now, I’m just listening to Prodigy in my iPod. I can only have certain music in there because I have thousands and thousands of songs but I have Prodigy in there too. Prodigy is my man and I’m glad he’s out of jail too.

Game. I dig The Game. Game talks about everything. It’s hard to find that with rappers nowadays. Just like Wayne, I feel like Game has shown his range, whether it be a song about his homie dying or his “Dreams” song or even his “300 Barz” record. Just listen to those. I wouldn’t even listen to my own freestyle for “300 Barz” and I listen to his for that long. So anybody that keeps your attention that long has to be great.

Das EFX. I love Das EFX because Das EFX was the real truth. Whatever you were saying, they got your attention. Even when we were on the road as the Fugees, I would watch them every night. They would get into the crowd and really stick with them.

Lady Luck. I’ll prove myself. People who know me will definitely agree. I’m not trying to be cocky but I haven’t met a female that can freestyle like me. I ain’t met a female yet on that level even from the ones that y’all respect. I’ll show you Tweets, letters from jail and you’ll see they’ve said, “Yo Luck, put on a skirt and you’ll take over the game.” I want you people to join me in my opinion. Believe in yourself and everybody else will.
