Just days after OutKast member Andre 3000's mother passed away, pop singer Bruno Mars has lost his at the age of 55.
While details are still surfacing, Mars’ mom reportedly died sometime Saturday (June 1).
Bernadette Hernandez — mother of Bruno Mars — died unexpectedly Saturday at the age of 55. Hernandez suffered a brain aneurysm. She passed away at the Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hernandez was a hula dancer and singer who immigrated from the Philippines and nurtured Mars’ musical talents from a very young age. Mars was set to kick off a tour in the U.S. later this month. No word on whether the death will affect the concert schedule. (TMZ)

The mother of Grammy-winning pop star Bruno Mars has died in Hawaii. Bernadette Hernandez died Saturday of a brain aneurysm, according to a publicist for Mars’ label, Atlantic Records, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak on the record. The 27-year-old singer reportedly shared a close-knit bond to his mother.
Bruno was extremely close to his mother, who was a mother of six children including Bruno. Their tight bond was evident in his music and also in life in general. After Bruno was nominated for seven Grammys in 2011, Bernadette could hardly contain her joy: “Bruno I am so so proud of you. I knew this was going to happen but not this extent,” she said. “I still think of him as my baby and keep forgetting he is a man.” (Hollywood Life)
Coincidentally, the news comes just days after Andre 3000 lost his mother.
Andre “3000” Benjamin’s mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo has passed away, a representative for the musician and actor confirms to Billboard. Benjamin-Hodo was the founder and guiding force of The Starlight Camp for underprivileged children, which she ran out of the New Morning Light Missionary Baptist Church in Conley, GA — the church of her husband, Pastor Robert Hodo. In lieu of flowers, continued support of The Starlight Camp is appreciated by the family, Benjamin’s spokesperson notes. (Billboard)
