Cash Money Records artist Bow Wow has reignited talk of a possible rap retirement after he puts out his upcoming new solo album.
When asked about competing in a market with more street-based artists, Bow Wow promised his Cash Money debut would push the envelope.
“I’m not worried at all. On this record, I sound like a new artist. I’m even approaching it like a new artist. There are so many things that are going on around me that as an artist you want to write about it. And the things that I’m writing about now are true things that I feel. This is my most passionate, realest, and emotional album that I’ve ever done. This album is so personal to me. Once the fans hear this album, I don’t know how I will be able to top it. I may just have to bow out after I drop this one.” (VIBE)
Despite Bow Wow’s past promises to have Jadakiss executive produce the album, the LOX member later clarified his involvement.
“That’s still in the talks,” Jada said in a September 2010 interview about overseeing Bow Wow’s LP. “I hollered at Bow, then he mentioned it on the red carpet of the Lottery Ticket premiere and I looked at the Internet bugging out. But we briefly talked about it over the phone, that’s just talks. If it’s the right situation and needs me to do something, I’ll help him out. He reached out to the God MC to oversee his joint and like I said in the question before this, it’s a business and there’s proper channels it has to go through in order to make it happen. If he wanna do it, we can do it, but right now it’s just talks.” (Karen Civil)
Last month, Bow Wow spoke on representing for Cash Money and balancing music with movie-making.
“I’m Cash Money, but you know we’re all under the same umbrella. It’s all the same thing we screaming out, ‘YMCMB.’ We’re all under one umbrella and that’s what it is, we all fit together well because we’re all so different. Nicki [Minaj] is the first female rapper on the label, Drake is the new artist and you’ve got [Lil] Wayne, he’s a rock star. Then myself, I’m like the triple threat. I do the movies; I do the music, so we all contribute off of each other. I can open up doors in Hollywood for my team mates and just try to make things easier for them. Nicki wants to do movies; she was supposed to be in ‘Lottery Ticket’, a lot of people didn’t know that. She actually auditioned; I set it up and everything. So that’s just the power that I have, that’s what I can do, so it’s really all about just helping each other.” (The Wrap-Up)
After announcing a rap retirement in early 2009, Bow Wow later signed with Baby‘s Cash Money Records.
“To the naysayers, I hope that you give me the opportunity to earn your respect,” he wrote Tuesday (August 18) night. “I know that over the years I’ve put many of my faults on display which I make no excuses for. I’m young and I’ve made mistakes and I will make more. No different than any other 22 year old, I still have some growing up to do…To anyone who’s confused or says I don’t belong in Cash Money. Let me remind you that I’ve been down with Baby, Slim, Wayne and the whole Cash Money family from the beginning.” (Global Grind)
A confirmed release date for Bow Wow’s album has not yet been released.
