The Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am has announced plans to put out a new group album called The Beginning by the end of 2010.
Reflecting on their longevity, Will says his crew has never lost a step in their decade-long career.
“We came out in ’98 and our career, if you would look at it on chart, there’s no dips in it,” he said in a phone interview Thursday. “For our career to still be healthy and vibrant and doing things like 6 million downloads, it’s pretty significant.” “I Gotta Feeling” was one of the hits from the group’s multiplatinum “The E.N.D.,” which was released last year. Although it is still on the charts, will.i.am said a new album, “The Beginning,” is almost finished and likely due at the end of the year. (Associated Press)
The group’s last album, E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies), has remained on the sales chart since 2009.
Award-winning group Black Eyed Peas’ E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) got a five-position boost to No. 20 with 14,900. After 59 long weeks, the crew’s 2009 album has sold 2,685,000 units to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Recently, Will declared his legacy in hip-hop and justified why he represented “real” rap.
“If there’s anyone that’s the personification of hip-hop, I’m probably the most hip-hop n*gga out of all these hip-hop n*ggas. But hip-hop editorial and blogs and even some of the hip-hop fans don’t see it that way, which is cool,” he said in an interview. “I’m going to win. I’m going to win and win bigger than all these n*ggas are winning…Hip-Hop is limiting itself and that also goes for editorially. Magazines and websites are the gatekeepers of what people think hip-hop is, but they actually end up limiting what hip-hop can be.” (VIBE)
