G.O.O.D. Music's Big Sean recently talked about the release of his chart-topping Dark Sky Paradise album and what impact revealing his personal phone number on "Outro" has had on him.

According to Sean, once the song went out to the masses he had to switch up phones.

“I thought that was the livest, tightest, coolest idea I could do,” says the rapper, calling from his L.A. home. “But I immediately had to get another phone, because it wouldn’t stop ringing, ever since the album leaked. Right now, I’m looking at it, and it won’t stop, man. Texts are flying in every second. Do you get charged for texts you don’t open?” (Rolling Stone)

Despite the comparisons, Sean said his decision to unleash the phone number did not come from Houston rapper Mike Jones‘ knack for dishing his out in the mid-2000’s.

“I wasn’t the biggest Mike Jones fan, to be honest. This is way cooler than how he did it. His was more of a gimmick. Mine is more like, “Yo, people say I’ve changed and sh*t. Really? Well, here’s my f*cking number. Call me.” It’s not like I’m trying to sell anything or got some weird-a** hotline going on. This is really my cell phone that I carry in my pocket.” (Rolling Stone)

The Detroit native publicly thanked fans in an intimate clip earlier this month for supporting his new LP.

“And we got the number one album in the country,” Sean said in his clip. “Straight up. Eh, you know we got the number one album in the country? Dark Sky Paradise, man, and it’s because of you, all right? Thanks for everybody copping it and holding me down, man.” (Big Sean’s Instagram)

Sean’s new LP managed to sell over 173,000 copies in its opening week.

With that opening sum, it gives Big Sean his best sales week ever as well, trumping the 87,000 start of his first album, Finally Famous, in 2011. His second studio set, 2013’s Hall of Fame, bowed with 72,000. Both sets debuted and peaked at No. 3. (HITS Daily Double)
