G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean has weighed in on Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV nearly hitting a million sold copies its opening week and debuting atop the sales chart.
Shocked by the amount of sales, Sean said he projected the album to sell up to 500,000 copies.
“God d*mn, you remember we were talking about how much Lil Wayne was going to sell,” Sean said in an interview. “I ain’t gonna lie, I thought he was going to sell [500,000]. He sold 964,000? Oh sh*t. Man. Congratulations Lil Wayne, you sh*tted on everybody again. Again…Congratulations to him. I think that’s like beautiful. That’s inspiring to me. I’m trying to sell a million the first week. Lil Wayne really worked his a** off for that. He’s been going since he was 13 with the Hot Boys to the everything.” (Rap-Up TV)
This week, Weezy’s new solo album flirted with a million by selling just over 960,000 copies.
Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV debuted on the chart this week at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Weezy’s long-awaited new album has sold 965,300 copies after just a week of availability. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Following its debut atop the competition, Cash Money Records founders Slim and Baby shared their reactions.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Lil Wayne and everyone here at Cash Money,” said Slim. “It’s a tribute to the hard work and commitment he’s shown from the very start.” “I consider him my son, part of the Cash Money family from the very start,” added Baby. “One thing I’ve learned. Although there are no estimates as of yet, Wayne’s new solo effort is expected to dominate the sales chart next week.
