While Sean did not name-drop Danny, his dicey comments were directed to someone in particular.

During a recent interview with Hip Hop Nation, Big Sean commented on an anonymous artists’ critique of his credibility in his hometown of Detroit. “F*ck whoever talking about Big Sean and don’t know nothing about Detroit or the streets of Detroit,” Sean said. “I be in there. Matter of fact, not only do I be there and be in the hood, I be helping the hood and giving back to the hood. I’m the only one out of ya’ll rappers or even new rappers who was paying for Thanksgiving dinners last year, buying Christmas gifts. So if you ever talking sh*t about me like I ain’t be up in the hood, n*gga you crazy.” (Complex)

Earlier in the week, Danny did not hesitate to mention Sean when talking about Motor City-based artists.

“You listen to how I talk about Detroit, and you listen to how a rapper like Big Sean talk about Detroit, and it’s like we’re talking about two different cities. He went to the best high school in the city, you know, he probably was real spoiled or sheltered, so it’s like two different worlds. He can look at it and talk about guap, and we don’t have any….A lot of people in Detroit don’t consider him that either. They say he from L.A. now. He ain’t been to the hood in years, and I wouldn’t either if I was him, to be honest. It’s not a bad thing. I’m in the hood every day now, so I see the faces, I see the desperation.” (The FADER)

Sean previously talked to SOHH about putting on and being influenced by Detroit rappers.

“H*ll yeah, I represent Detroit in everything I do,” Sean told SOHH when asked if he is ready to carry the torch for his city. “That’s my city, they show me love. Detroit is a city where you have to earn your love. I earned their love and they show me love back. Everything I do is for my city. Detroit has the most soul in the world and I feel like it’s my shot to show it to the whole world and show a different perspective than Eminem shows. But shout-out to Em, shout-out to Kid Rock and Royce Da 5’9, Trick Trick, Slum Village, Street Lord. … H*ll yeah I was influenced by Detroit rappers. I feel like you can hear the lyricism from Eminem, Royce Da 5’9 in my music. I try to keep some soul in my music as well. You can hear the J. Dilla, Slum Village. I feel like every Detroit artist you can hear a little bit of them in me.” (SOHH)
