BET Networks will honor R&B superstar Mary J. Blige and others at the second annual “BET Honors” ceremony next month in Washington, DC.
Hosted by actress Gabrielle Union, this year’s event will recognize achievements by the Grammy winning singer alongside other honorees including filmmaker Tyler Perry and NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
Taking place during the inauguration weekend of president-elect Barack Obama, BET executives have expressed their excitement for the upcoming celebration.
“We are thrilled to kick off this historic inauguration weekend with the return of ‘The BET Honors,’ a truly inspirational event that pays tribute to extraordinary individuals in our community,” BET Network Chairman Debra L. Lee said in a statement.
“I’m certain that this year’s ‘BET Honors’ will be even more poignant and powerful than we could have ever imagined.”
Last year’s honorees included mega figures Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks and Dr. Cornel West with performances and presentations by Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, Wyclef Jean and more.
“BET Honors” takes place Saturday, January 17 at Washington, DC’s Warner Theater.
