BET, Nelly & Ne-Yo Address Pre-Show Stabbing, Fatal Shooting

Television network BET, Nelly and Ne-Yo have all come forward to address the violence which surrounded the annual awards show last night (June 29) in Los Angeles. #StopTheViolence

BET emphasized the incidents had no direct connection to its Sunday night awards show.

One person was killed and five injured in separate incidents ahead of the show at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, Los Angeles police said. The events were “unauthorized and unaffiliated with the BET Awards,” BET said in a statement. The death and four of the injuries followed gunfire early Sunday at a restaurant, Officer Drake Madison said. Separately, a man was stabbed in the stomach Saturday night at a nightclub. (TIME)

Musicians Ne-Yo and Nelly also briefly addressed the pre-awards violence.

On the red carpet, rapper Nelly said of the violence: “You can’t place (the blame) on BET.” R&B singer Ne-Yo had not heard about the incidents until arriving at the show, but he said he doesn’t fear for his safety at industry parties and events. “I feel like the energy I give off is the energy I get back, and I don’t give off that kind of energy,” he said. Details of the near-fatal stabbing hit the Internet Sunday (June 29), hours before the awards ceremony.

There was a stabbing last night at a BET Awards pre-party filled with famous rappers … somebody was seriously injured — and we got crazy footage as it all was going down. Law enforcement says a man in his 20s was stabbed inside Lure Nightclub on the dance floor Saturday night after a fight broke out … and in the video, he’s seen laying on the curb waiting for help while a panicked friend yells at cops to hurry the ambulance. Although hosted by rapper Meek Mill, the event had a star-studded guest list which included rap stars Game and Ma$e.

We’re told the man was rushed to Cedars-Sinai with two stab wounds in the stomach and he’s currently in stable condition. The party was hosted by rapper Meek Mill … The Game, Lil Boosie, Mase and actress Kyla Pratt were also there. (TMZ)
