With rap beefs already in full effect at the start of 2012 (as seen with Drake versus Common), newly signed Bad Boy Records rapper French Montana speaks on why these feuds can ultimately have a negative effect on artists' wallets.
In French’s eyes, beefing is not worth a cautious artist’s time or money.
“Beefing is always gonna slow your money up. When you start beefing, everybody is gonna stop trying to spend money with you. You scare people away. It’s a lot of things that happen when you start beefing with people. I think a lot of people were introduced to me [via the beef between Jim Jones and incarcerated rapper Max B], but when did I get more popular?” (Hip Hop DX)
Cash Money Records’ Birdman recently said the beef between Drake/Common is something his team is not actively promoting.
“Drake the homie so we ride or die. Ain’t no second questions about that, but we never been a brand to make [diss] records, and to make money off of making records of other people that’s not what we about,” Birdman told radio host Big Boy. “So to me, however the young homie deals with it we behind him, we supporting him 100 percent with our life so that’s just what it is. Ain’t no other way. Drake’s the lil’ homie, hat’s blood, that’s family, and ain’t no siding with that. It’s Drake or nothing.” (Power 106)
On Monday (January 9), Common dropped the Stay Schemin'” remix, which specifically targets Drake.
Now, Common has responded on “Stay Schemin (Remix)” and the cover art below (Stay Schemin: Rick Ross Common French Montana & That H*e A** Nigg%) also has a message for Drake. “My motto is Chicago b*tch, everybody know you’re sweet, what the problem is? / Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged this,” “The rapper of the moment, the style he don’t own it / Acting all hard when he hardly like that / You gon’ mess around and make me catch a body like that / Don’t do it, ’cause every song you make Joe is really h*e music.” (RapFix)

Can’t we all get @-long anymore? In 2011, too many hip-hop artists and R&B kiddies found themselves heating up the Internet with social network mayhem. Before Ja Rule wound up doing time behind bars, he and 50 Cent engaged in a final Twitter joust. Even subliminal responses reached all-time highs, whether it be Lil Wayne getting on Uncle Luke for questioning his Miami residency or Drake tweeting — then deleting — his two cents toward recent nemesis Common. The rhyme-chiding is all good for the followers to debate rhymes and punchlines, but let us not forget that in 2011, Twitter sadly also became a crime scene when Los Angeles rapper Boskoe1 was arrested for the murder of fellow hip-hop artist RoseMos over reckless tweets.
