Despite recently admitting his wrongs for beefing with Jay-Z, Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel has come forward to speak on his music hiatus over the past few years.
According to Beans, personal issues and a desire to spend family time kept him grounded.
“I think it’s all timing with me. I just had to go back,” Sigel said in an interview. “For me, running constantly since I was first came on the business, I never had a chance to sit still. I got kids and everything. I had a couple issues in my life that made me have to sit down, unwillingly, and when I came home, I had a little paper trail. So just that time for me to be with my kids, I was missing out on a lot of things. I just enjoyed that and got comfortable in that zone.” (“Invasion Radio”)
In January, Sigel revealed an interest to drop a new album via Baby’s Cash Money Records label.
“Classic, the date, to be continued,” Sigel said in an interview when asked about the name and release date of his upcoming album. “Right now, I wouldn’t mind f*cking around with [Cash Money Records co-founder] Baby. Majors? Nah, I’d rather go with an independent. Far as the labels out there, I wouldn’t [mind] f*cking with Cash Money. I wouldn’t mind f*cking with the Birdman. I wouldn’t mind f*cking with 50 [Cent], doing some movies and sh*t. But definitely the Birdman. I f*cks with the Birdman. Shout-out to the Birdman and Lil Wayne. Cash Money.” (804 Ent)
Last June, Def Jam VP of A&R Sha Money XL said Sigel was preparing a new LP.
“Redman’s getting ready to deliver. Method Man’s getting ready to get started. Beanie Sigel, I had a conversation with him,” Sha revealed in an interview. “Hopefully he’ll get back over here. He’s here, but, just really getting in the mind frame like he’s getting ready to put an album out, getting right because he’s the sh*t.” (XXL Mag)
Sigel’s last solo effort dropped four years ago through Def Jam.
The album, The B. Coming, hit the shelves in March of 2005 while the movie, State Property 2, was released in April. Out of prison by the end of the year, Sigel went to work on his fourth album, The Solution; though there seemed to be fluctuations in Sigel’s stance in the split between Jay-Z and Damon Dash, the rapper remained with Jay-Z, on Roc-a-Fella, and The Solution was issued in December 2007.
