Cash Money Records’ Baby has shared his reaction to Nicki Minaj‘s Pink Friday setting the bar for female emcees and selling over 375,000 copies in its first-week sales.
Impressed by the accomplishment, Baby admitted he knew Minaj was capable of generating a strong buzz and attention.
“It’s cool, she accomplished more than– it’s been 10 years man, 15 years since anybody did that. I think that’s great though, how we did it and how everybody buckled down and grinded. I love her. I got the utmost respect for Nicki because she is a hard worker and she is dedicated and she’s smart, she’s intelligent and she’s a student of this sh*t. Nicki gonna keep growing. She has that mindset and what she is reaching for is high in the sky, so you’re gonna keep seeing Nicki grow. We’re proud of what she did and we’re going to expect next time to be even better.” (XXL Mag)
This week, Minaj said she would continue to celebrate her first-week sales by working the album’s promotion.
“I’m just so grateful and kind of still in shock,” Minaj said about her debut selling over 375,000 copies in its first-week. T”hese numbers haven’t been put up since 1998. It just makes me feel proud of my team, proud of my fans, everyone who has had something to do with my dreams. Finally, we are seeing this dream come to fruition. It feels incredible…Now I can promote the body of work. I feel like I gave birth to my baby, now I’m gonna teach it how to walk and how to talk and spoil the baby.” (MTV)
