Cash Money Records head Birdman recently talked about the inevitable retirement of his all-star protégé Lil Wayne and how he manages to run a successful business knowing Weezy's days are numbered.
Birdman said no matter what decisions Wayne makes in life, he fully rides behind him.
“I mean, to me, he works so hard, I’ve never seen no human do what he do,” Birdman said in an interview. “He’s definitely a machine and whatever decision he make, I’m gonna support that and we’re gonna find something else to do or whatever he feel like he want to do. I never questioned nothing he do. Honestly. Whatever he do, we’re going to do it together. That’s just how I feel, so, if that’s how he feels, then that’s what it is. I never saw no one [like him]. Hopefully one day we do see someone but I’ve never seen no one work as hard as him, as many hours as he puts in, and puts his life on the line for music, his family and his team. I’ve never saw that from no individual. Ever.” (“RapFix”)
Last year, Wayne signed a huge, multi-album deal with Cash Money.
The rapper, who has been signed to Cash Money records since he was 11 years old, has inked a deal with the label to put out another four albums under his Young Money imprint. Wayne made the announcement during an interview with MTV’s Hip Hop POV, while also revealing details about his contract with the label and what fans can expect from his new releases. “Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs. Maybe on a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13,” Weezy said. “But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I don’t really care … you’re probably gonna get 16 on there.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
Over the fall, the platinum-selling rapper announced his final LP’s title.
“I know y’all want me around for a little bit, [but] Tha Carter V is my last album,” he revealed. “I’ve been rapping since I was 8 years old; I’m 30 now. That’s a long time, and I like to do so many more things, and when I like to do something, I end up loving to do it real quick. And I love to do something, I’m fully focused on it and it only, and music sometimes is not that ‘it.'” (MTV)
In XXL Magazine‘s July/August 2011 cover story, Wayne discussed his motivation to retire at an early age, which would ending a long streak of album releases.
The Young Money leader also revealed to XXL that he plans to retire soon and hints at C4 possibly being his last offering. “I’m bowing out still on top,” he says. “I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this b*tch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘F*ck!’ Yeah, n*gga, I’m gone.” (XXL Mag)
