Azealia Denies Retirement Reports, “Don’t Let The Stupid Rap Blogs Tell You I’ve Stopped Rapping”

Rap newcomer Azealia Banks has come forward to kill reports claiming she announced a rap retirement this weekend after vowing to leave Twitter and disassociate herself from the hip-hop game.

Taking to Tumblr, Banks laughed off the claims and put matters into perspective.

“don’t let the stupid rap blogs tell u i’ve stopped rapping.. cause i haven’t.. i’m still here.. i just know that being as REACTIVE of a person as i am… i can’t be reading EVERYONE’S thoughts all day. its easy for people to hide behind their twitter pages. so they’ll say sh*t they wouldn’t say if you were to ever be face to face. and when they say these things… and find out that i’m a REAL person.. and they get a REAL response.. they don’t know what to do… … then I’m standing there looking like the bad guy because i got too real. [sic]” (Azealia Banks’ Tumblr)

She also made a few accusations based on the topic of sexism in hip-hop.

“I’m not a dummy…. i know i pop a lot of sh*t, and I’m not playing the victim here… i’m just backing off. I can’t fight every battle. I can’t open the eyes of those who choose to stay asleep. I can’t abide by the rules of “rap game”….. (NO ONE EVEN KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE….LOL!) I also can’t be subjected to whatever weird “Light skin hierarchy” the rap world subliminally (and sometimes directly) is trying to promote. I know what it is…the MEN in the rap game prefer light skin… and that’s cool, i like light skin too.. but i’m not here to be sexy.. and i’m not here looking for a date. I’m not even really here for the men. (#lesbihonest) I’m a Young Black American Woman in 2012. I’m a 21-yr-old millionaire. i don’t have to prove myself to anyone….I’ve already paid my dues. I and the generations of women who came before me have been through enough stress and crap to warrant me (the new generation) a very illustrious, lucrative, luxurious, STRESS-FREE career & life. and just that’s it! Azealia Banks just wants to be free! free from social media.. free from the rap game.. free from the haters, and free from the ignorance! [sic]” (Azealia Banks’ Twitter)

Prior to those remarks, she announced plans to fall back on social networking site Twitter and the rap game.

In a post on her page entitled “no longer wishing to be a rapper”, she writes, “i never was… and as soon as i started paying attention to bulls**t urban media, i started getting myself in trouble. From now on i’m a vocalist, and will not be associating myself with the ‘rap game’… or whatever the f**k that means… “no more twitter for me… it makes me entirely too accessible. Catch me on tumblr… it’ll be more interesting. (Contact Music)

A few days ago, Banks raised eyebrows after firing manager and vowing to never put her career in a man’s hands again.

“I know who you are yes…You short bald man…I know you planted these false stories,” she tweeted earlier in the week.

“Guess what?: I’m still not going to let you manage me again. I’ve dealt with enough cyber bullying to see right thru this.”

“I will definitely be working BY MYSELF and saving MY 20% On management commissions while I avoid you sharks in the water….”

“I really want a female manager. Women are just so much smarter.”

“I just want a really hardcore woman…Or a really gay man as my manager…You other n-ggas have WAY too much ego sh-t with y’all.”

“I just need a lady with some really intimidating glasses and a crazy shoe game to just stomp all you phonies out!”

“Lol I’m dead serious tho…About not hiring another male manager. The next manager you all see will be the kuniest k*nt ever.” (Azealia Banks’ Twitter)
